The Pioneer "SPEC" Gear Thread!

Adam, I am afraid I am going to have to confiscate that Spec 4 . It seems as tho you are no longer able to care properly for it so it must be removed from your household and placed in a home where it will receive proper care.
Please go ahead and start packing it up.......

Oh, it is receiving the utmost of care! :D Here is a picture of it as it is now, in it's natural environment:

spec 4 lights

so the other night I was laying in bed and noticed with the lights out. That I needed to add one more issue to my list. The spec 4 amp has two big vu meters. MMMMM Nice. But, one meter has 2 lights and the other has 1 light. So another thing to add for the list of small repairs. Can somebody give me a heads up on what to order and how easy it is to replace in the spec 4?
Also the spec 1 headphone jack only plays one channel. Yikes. Maybe a cleaning.

Thanks,

Josh

My Spec system..............Spec 1 pre, Spec 2 amp, SG-9500 Equalizer (want a 9800), TX-9500II tuner, along with a DT540 timer (for the clock only), PL-S50 turntable, PDR-609 CD player/recorder (for vinyl recording). Fed into Cerwin Vega DX-3 speakers (refoamed) or one of my 9 pair of headphones...............including Sennheiser HD800, HiFiMan HE-400 (from the speaker taps they are amazing), Denon LA7000, MD5000, MD2000, Dharma D1000, etc...........

You are right sir... I forgot to mention those, since they are not spec's.. They are Japanese market only rack mountable separates. The C73 pictured there is indeed the same as the SPEC3 western substitute, The M73 has no western substitute.

The comparison is like this:
C-73 --> Spec 3
C-77 --> Spec 1
M-73 --> no substitue
M-75 --> Spec 4 (there is a little difference here, being the knobs between the VU's)
M-77 --> Spec 2

Interestingly enough there is also a separate rack mountable tuner, being the F-73, which is about the same as a TX-9500.. Furthermore there is the CT-97 rack mountable cassettedeck, which is technically the same as a CT-F9191..

There are some more rack mountable separates as well for the Japanese market, but they are from a different quality and specs with them. Being the: C-1500, SC-1500II, SC-1800II, M-1500, SM-1500II, SM-1800II and the F-1500.

Cheers,
JW
Looking for

I just posted a separate thread related to a pair of spec-15l studio monitors. Somehow missed this...

I have a Spec 1 and 2. The 2 works but the dc offset is high on one channel so I don't want to use it until I get it fixed. I also have an RT-909, CT-F1000 and an SG-9800. I also plan on getting a matching tuner. I'd love to get a Pioneer rack for them someday but given the price they sell for it probably won't ever happen.

Looks like the jury is still out trying to decide how close this stuff is to Spec gear,some consider it to be and others don't.
I see the F-73 tuner mentioned here but no pictures so I'll post this for reference.
Just picked these up,the Japan market 100 volt units,M-73,C-73 and F-73.
