Nice RACK

what is the measurement (diameter) of the 4 threaded rods? 12mm or 14mm or 16mm or 18mm or + ?????

Thanks

.

Picked up my Sl-1100 a few months back. Traded my Rega Planar I for it. Came with shipping box also. I've tried different cartridges on it. A Denon Dl301 Moving coil, Goldring E2, and now a Sumiko Pearl. So far the Sumiko is sounding really nice.

I've been told that this has some cheap rca cables inside of the plinth that connects the arm to outer rca hookup. Was told to bypass this and use better rca cables from inside from the arm to my preamp connection. Has anyone tried this?

I removed the jack panel entirely when I was running my SL-110. IMO it's not about whether the wire is crappy or not but about eliminating as many connections as possible. At this level of equipment it usually pays dividends in better sonics.

Picked up on a trade. Always liked the look. First time getting one. Has a Grace 707 arm with Grado cart. Cover. SH-11L1 lamp. Thoughts and suggestions.

Had original tube of oil under the platter.

Hi all
I thought I would add my name of proud owners of the glorious Technics SL110. I was actually on the lookout for a clean SME 3009 for a recently purchased Thorens TD160 I was refurbishing for another room in the house to play vinyl (in addition to my main listening room with a Gyro/SME V rig).

I came across a completely immaculate Technics with 3009 being sold by someone who did not know what it was (house clearance)

it was on ebay and unfortunately, I was not the only one to spot it, so I did not get a complete bargain, but still a fair price.

I have cleaned the pots with contact cleaner, regreased the silky moving parts, added a couple of drops of oil and that's was it.

I also decided to add some damping panels to the cavernous undercarriage. I can't say whether it has helped, as I didn't listen to it beforehand, but suffice to say I am very impressed with the overall sound quality, the bass is excellent. No drift on speed at all, rock solid.

I got a lid but no hinges, yet holes were drilled on the back to hinge the lid (I gather as standard it was hinge less)

So I decided to create a solution to reuse the existing hole positions. Pleased with the outcome, 4 torque hinges from China costing £4, plus two stainless steel plates, and a rubber layer, all bolted together with M4 Hex stainless steel bolts. Feels very solid, very classy and could be OEM, though I doubt they would have been this solid back then ;) sorry for the poor pic taken in dim conditions.

I thought I would share my experience here, as this seems to be the main source of info for this venerable turntable.

PS selling a lovely refurbished Thorens TD160, as I am under strict instructions to reduce the TT count!!
Almost didn't get it because of no hinges. But I did.

Looks ok, just lifting and dusty? Maybe pull it off, clean it in warm soapy water and stick it back down? The big question is what adhesive? What adhesive is used in scotch tape?

Well. Pulled & cleaned the Hz label. The part that was still adhered stuck back. The curled edges were damaged & would not stick. If I can't find a good sub will probably pull it. Strange that they did not print it on like the rest of the markings.

You could try pressing it down with a warm iron (not hot) and a slip of wax paper.

Not sure why they didn't screen it...must've been an afterthought.

There are decal making businesses you could contact. I don't know of any offhand but I've read of them. You supply the artwork and specs then they send it to you.

Gary7 you didn't mention the model number of the Grado cartridge on the Grace 707 tonearm. Now if you were to find a F8 or F9 Grace cartridge it would be the perfect match for that tonearm. Prior owner put a really great combo together. Do you have the dustcover? I forget if it was an optional accessory.

Yes has original cover. Almost did not get it because of no hinges. :) Pretty sure it came with it, shows it in the OM. The Grado is a FT+, but had no cantilever. I had a Grado RP II P-mount, not sure where that fall in the Grado line. popped it in. Sounds good. Sure would like a Grace F9, if I could find one at a decent price.

Tell me about these rotor clamps? Mine has one, with rubber screw caps. I took it off, although the rotor would turn with it. So I looked in the OM. It says it should remain in place, so I put it back. Shows 2 others with bare screws. The SM only shows these two. What have you other owners here done?

Not in use, but are equivalent to transit screws in function. Leave them there as you don't want to lose them...

This one only has the one with the rubber caps, in the pic. Fellow I got it from had no other parts. I figure I can make something if I ever need them.
