To put it mildly and not to put to fine a point on it...

Thanks for the link.

That's actually very sad to see one man's life collection being parted out as such. I never go to estate sales for this very reason. I don't feel "right" digging through a dead person's house and belongings, no matter how good a deal I may find.

+1!

Yea, I feel that way when looking at episodes of "Storage Wars." Just sad that it has to end that way, but life does move on.

At least the guy was neat about his collection - looks like you could easily find stuff instead of trip over it like a hoarder's mess.

Hm to be honest I'd rather have the space alone, that would tickle me to death! I'd also make a garage door to park my Galaxie inside, then crank some good tunes

Oh come on. The owner likely knew this was going to happen to it. Estate auctions and sales are more than likley how he acquired a good deal of it in the first place.

FWIW, the man died about a year and a half ago at age 90. His daughters and their families likely have no desire to be saddled with a collection they don't have specific interest in. If one does have interest in some of it then that's probably already been settled long before the remainder of the estate gets liquidated.

I don't think you should feel that way, StevenZ. I know that when I pass on I truly hope there are AK members looking through, and loving, my collection. And I hope they buy as much as they can, because I know they will enjoy my treasures, and my wife might make some bucks to go toward a vacation!

Wow, this is strange, I live about 6 miles from his house. About 5-8 years ago I was biking past his place and somehow got into a conversation with this gentleman. As we talked( and I tried desperately to avoid his cigar smoke...) he said he had some old radios or something in his barns/garages. So he took me on a tour of the place, showing off the various items all stored and placed on shelves rather nicely and quoting what the estimated value was of each piece ( which seemed high to me at the time, but than again I'm not into vintage radios) . About a year ago I noticed the place was vacant and a dumpster was on the property and I did wonder what happened to the gentleman. Now I know. What I found curious was that he did not seem into "vintage HiFi " as I know it but more into old radios. I can't recall if he had owned a repair shop at one time or not .

It looks like a museum could be created out of this place. I agree with a previous poster, it would be cool to crank up some tunes and just hang out here for week or so looking at all the stuff.
