Tips on using dinosaurs receivers?

I think the Optimus passive sub is too low ohms or just incompatible with this model of subwoofer , and this sony receiver cannot power it .
The "Woofer Out" on your device is almost certainly intended for a powered subwoofer. What you appear to have is a speaker element. You need a subwoofer amplifier to use the speaker you've got, or get a powered subwoofer.

That’s out has never worked to use Dolby digital I need a 5.1 ch output DVD player or some way to trick the receiver .
I can hook my active sub to the speakers via cable though I got an old khl from after the brand quality died haha.
My best sub staying hooked to my onkyo 818.

Judging by your pics, I'd cut off 1/4" behind your stripped ends, re-twist, then tin the ends. If they fit then, problem solved. If not, cut off tinned ends, carefully cut a few strands out. Re-tin, try again. All that bare copper exposed, with an occasional stray strand looks like an invitation to disaster for your equipment

How close are you to Hartville -Marlboro twp. area? Perhaps I can help. Jerry

Flirting with disaster...........

I have a Sony AVR on the TV. Can't figure out much of anything without reading the manual. Do it all with the remote. Probably the same deal with yours. Might have to actually turn on the sub to get anything out of it.

I tried it when I got it , I never had a DVD player With 5.1 ch output apparently that’s only way it works. Should had gotten the aiwa system surround sub was ran by receiver itself .
Massive failure by Sony to make a model like this . Hardly any sound goes to other speakers but my fronts and no A& B options.
Plenty of bass no need for sub , no short cercuit since I unplugged optimists sub.
Sub was terrible anyways might sell it .

Unfortunately you just wasted the time it took you to type that, OP has a history of ignoring what needs to be done.
I have a second powered sub , if the sub output is defective I can still plug it in via speaker outputs the old way .
I have listened to advice , sub output never worked since I bought this receiver and no menu to turn it off on .
This passive sub sucks anyways , it’s not much use .
