Tom Magliozzi deceased at 77.

Tom always brought a smile to everyone's face. He will be sorely missed. I always enjoyed the show but sometimes I'd find myself shouting at the radio when their advise was either way off the mark or they were struggling with a diagnosis with an obvious answer.
Does anyone remember the call they got from the space shuttle in orbit? It caught the guys totally flat footed. The caller started out by saying he had a Rockwell truck that shook violently when it started up. The call had that signature hello Houston sound quality to it and the guys were pretty quite. The caller went on to say that it shook that way for a couple of minutes then it got perfectly smooth and quite. He added it was going pretty fast by that time. Tom asked how fast? The guy answers 17,000 mph. So Tom asks, where are you calling from? He says, let me look out the window. It looks like we are about 250 miles north of Hawaii.
As the conversation continued and the caller identified himself, it turned out that they knew each other. He used to come to their garage when he was going to MIT.
There will never be another Tom Magliozzi. We are all lucky that radio gave him a voice that could be heard by the whole world.

Check out brother Ray's memorial tribute to Tom on NPR that aired yesterday. I listened to it this AM and laughed till I had tears in my eyes, especiallyy the vowels story at the very beginning.

The "sleek black beauty" was an Ambassador.
God, I love that show. My wife and I have listened since 1987 and we still listen to the repeats. We feel like we know these guys and we have lost a great friend.

Getting lost is a big part of the MA driving experience. Practice in flipping the bird is another big aspect. Finally, of course, perfecting the execution of a left turn from the right lane (so as to beat out all of those idiots who are waiting their turn for a safe break in traffic for their left turns) will elevate one to the pantheon of certified competent to drive in Cambridge*

I listened to the memorial service this weekend. According to Wikipedia, they started to mix in reruns along with current content 4 years before the show ended in 2012. My guess is that Tom was having problems by then, since there was no shortage of callers to provide new material.
I did not realize they were doing reruns, but stopped listening to it sometime during that period, as the vehicles they discussed were obsolete.
