TPA 3116 vs the tripaths

lico, if you have a headphone connect it to your amp speaker terminals and listen. That is what a peaking outputfilter does, 20khz is irrelevant compared to what it does to every other frequency. 20khz is just specified because consensus is that an amp should have (very close to) straight frequency respons 20-20.
 
Hey, quick power question for black board users. I am getting set to do a new build after parts arrive. I have a Lenovo power brick that is 20 volts, 3.25 amps that I can use with plug modification to a 2.5mm jack. Is that amperage sufficient for good sound with the board? My other option is the SMSL 24v/5a supply that I've been using with my red board build...

May I ask, what power supply are you using with it, David? I am about to do a black/blue board build and I am thinking of adapting a Lenovo 20v/3.25a supply...?

question for Mr.rhing..does it matter orientation when soldering on the 330uF/25V Panasonic SEPF OSCON caps?..on mine one lead is longer

I really hate to ask the newbie questions, but this would save me a ton of time from reading the 91 page thread here, and the 339 page thread on diyaudio.

I was able to find a wiki showing all the available boards as of March, 2014, but there's no mention of any "black" boards which people have been mentioning lately: http://www.diyaudio.com/wiki/TPA3116D2_Boards

Are these the Yuan Jing new 2.0 boards? Is the only difference the thicker copper used? Would you recommend the YJ boards? Do they have any built-in speaker protection?

Most of the boards are black with blue components. Refereed to as "Blue/Black Board" I have each of the YJ, Hiamplifier, and recently received this one in 10 days. It's the cheapest I have seen. They all look the same with a few differences. I doubt they are being made in different factories at this price point. Probably just marketing mumbo jumbo.

That 'black/blue' board as people usually call it (due to black PCB and mostly blue caps) IS Yuan Jing version (allegedly based on board design made by that Spanish guy - danzz?) , just as that DIY page shows.
No, there is no 'spk. protection' on it, but as also many claim it's not such a big deal. Issue could be 'healed' somehow by replacing the basic caps with the better ones?!

I've completely missed the boat on these 3116 boards but in my search for a cheap T-amp came across the TDA7297 and now these.

Funny enough I was actually looking at buying a SMSL SA-36a Pro earlier, thinking it was a TA2020 and not a TPA3118.

I'm not sure whether I should go with the SMSL SA-36a ($50), a TPA3116D2 kit ($88), fully assembled TPA3117D2 YJ amp ($115), or just a board ($20) plus PSU ($10) - with the option of building a preamp.

Do you guys know if the black blue boards are easy to remove existing components from? No need for desoldering tools?

The board is very simply configured, the bottom side is clean of components, yet I recommend desoldering pump for that purpose.

I ordered the SMSL SA-36 Pro a week or so ago. I have a Panasonic SA-XR 55 that I will compare it with. Also have a Stellar Labs that has wonderful clear smooth sound. My granddaughters took it from me to run their tablet's music from. It won't get real loud but has a wonderful sound for background music.
