How's this for a lost, forgotten, neglected MC240 found in a shed. Alas chrome is all rusted, the lettering is all but gone and a bit of dirt.

I've seen Luther's work; I have no doubt in my mind that will be a nice looking piece of kit when he's done with it.

Lol about what looks like a mud dauber nest on the resistor side of that board.

It looks complete (except for the tube cage?) and at least it's not beat up with big dents in the transformers.

It would be fun getting it going again.

Not look like a mud dauber nest. It is a mud dauber nest. Like I said, it was in an outdoor shed for many years. It will require a lot of work, but first is to determine that the transformers are neither shorted or open. I would be rebuilding for personal use, so keeping it all original isn't a issue for me. Just have to determine if I want to paint the chassis, have it rechromed or buy a replacement.

You have the perfect perspective. If the iron is good, then rebuilding is the way to go. If 2 or 3 are bad, then you can probably help other rebuilders.

Doesn't look too bad :D
If the transformers are still good (they're tar-potted so chances are good) I'd give the chassis a scrub with some WD40 and see how it looks. You'll likely need to replace all the resistors and caps, and maybe also the sockets and terminals.

Here you'll get an idea what's ahead of you:

Thanks for the links. That gives me a really good idea of what is involved here. Gee another project, imagine that, me with another project...LOL

a great DIY job and not too tough either. yes, abit of work but thats part of the enjoyment to restoring an amp such as this. If the chrome doesn't come back there's nothing wrong with paint but you mite be surprised how it looks after cleaning and some 0000 steelwool. Just keep clear of lettering with it. New Rs and Cs and whatever else it needsshouldnt cost too much if you shop wisely. Looking frwrd to your progress.
Seems lotta these being done just now to boot. At least 2 others.
I'd love to get my hands on it and restore it.

Interesting that somebody left it in a out door shed.It can be made to really sing again. That will be a interesting transformation.Keep us posted and good luck.

WOW what a diff. you are well on the way to glory. A little dust hurts nuthin.

Pretty amazing what a can of flux stipper can do.

So what do you think, replace the thermister, selenium diode and bumble bee caps before even trying to power it up. New tube sockets and RCA. How far do I want to go with the chassis? Then it will still need new tubes. This could turn into an expensive project if I let it.

Is there anyway to tell an approximate build date on this? If it had a serial number I can't find it. There are a couple of numbers stamped on the bottom side of the chassis.
