Sweet! Well almost. You have one but not that one....

That's correct.

Photo found on the world wonderful wild web.
That's a lot easier than using own pictures.
Actual photo of mine is in my signature.

But mine is actually also different than standard, upgraded here and there.
Better preset memory battery, better preset buttons, better tuning thread (or whatever name that has in english) and some upgrade in the choise of componets!

Here's my 3001A in its native environment... with similar upgrades, i.e. new preset switches (although I have spare originals as well), new preset battery (same as original other than slight increase in capacity due to more modern construction & hopefully not as prone to leakage), upgraded Nichicon Gold caps in a few places. Dial cord is original though as this one hasn't suffered from the jammed tuning mechanism problem that usually causes dial cord problems.

Also pic of my racked Sansui TU-717, which is bone stock but still performs well if not quite up to the Tandberg's level.

Great looking set-up there.
Congratulation.
I notice not only your 3001A but also your fantastic Cassette deck, TCD 3014A, and your very well playing TD20A. (not SE, though).

Thank you... I am hoping to finish wiring it up and start listening to it this month. I am still waiting for some of the interconnects to arrive, and a friend is sending me some capacitors and information about upgrades for the preamp and amp that I want to study before I apply them.

The RTR is a 10X-4... but I do also have the 20A and ultimately plan to have the 20A SE in that system. A friend has offered to trade his in exchange for some other Tandberg equipment but we haven't consummated the deal yet.

My 20A is in several pieces right now so I put the 10X there as a placeholder when I took this picture.

Ahh. Ok
Sorry I didn't look thoroughly enough on the pic.

You can look forward to get the 20A SE. It's a great machine.

That's what I hear... although it is going to make the whole system pretty Darth-Vaderish, not a silver faceplate among them. My wife will probably not care for it much, but my ears should be happy :music:

We should probably get back to the original Tuners? topic... but thanks for the comments on this system. It still has some weak points but I continue to work on improving it.

Its overwhelming and beautiful. I cannot even imagine the sound with all that control. Nice pics too!

Hadn't thought about it, but I have reached that magic number "5" Someone once said that once you have 5 of something it becomes a collection. Guess that means I have two collections of fingers and toes too.. Anyway of them the TU317 is my most pleasing over all it has the sound and the appearance although push comes to shove, the DH330 pulls em in better and maybe sounds a teeny bit better But it doesn't fit into my overall look I like.

Sansui TU317 (Just finished making it pretty)

Mcintosh Mr-74. Bought locally from a former Local radio engineer with an unbelievable tuner collecton who lives near Glen Burnie, Md. He had a Mr-78 there for 650 but, I didnt have the money and my wife would have killed me if I came home having spent more money "for just another radio". Women dont get it sometimes.

400$ for the case, unit and specs of before and after a "tune up", basic cap job and required adjustments. In the basement, I am using a speaker wire Dipole looking rig for an antenna. I can pull in stations upwards to 90 miles away.

My Mc 2125 currently resides in the tuners case, so it's naked. As soon as I find a reasonable priced cabinet w/ panlocs, it's going to be "dressed" After that it's a new faceplate, if I cant use Terry's method to fix my black bubbles.

I love the sound, even though the local colledge stations often sound better..more like old analog. I find myself listening to radio as I sit here and surf more often than not.

I can even pick up ( I think thats what they are) HD stations but I get no sound. They are usually right next to a broadcasting station that has HD FM. At least that's what I think they are, just as strong and in stereo, dead quiet, but no sound. Ideas?

Most FM sounds excellent considering the digital media and components they use. Its not a Mr-78 but it's close enough for me. I want to change the knobs to the modern black and chrome to match the rest of my components.

Below is a pic of my beauty.

Thanks,

Phil

I am looking to buy a Very Good Old Tuner.
I need to decide between two tuners or maybe three:

Kenwood KT-8300 or Pioneer TU-9500II or Pioneer TU-9800

If somebody have good information about these tuners and pictures from inside and what is the best recommendation.
Kenwood is a 6 gangs fm
Pioneer is a 5 gangs fm
But, which one is more beautiful tuner, better sound, better design, better construction.
Thanks
