Tuners?

Yeah, the shipping cost for the KT-2001 is a bit high but they are shipping it via the USPS... my favored shipper.

Also , with the sorry state of most FM radio quality theses days with them just playing low bit rate digital files, I can't see getting an expansive tuner.

BTW, I do have a question that you may be able to answer...
The KT-2001 has a built in AM antenna of course but it also has a rear AM antenna input
I have a good stand alone AM loop antenna . Cat i also hook that up? Would there b e a conflict?.

I wil be using an old school indoor dipole for FM.

Doug, you have a nice variety of tuners! You are well supplied with. I also hava a UHER 751. Nice and completely different look. I sold most of my tuners. Only have some lovely Sansuis and Kenwoods. The Revox B760 has to go now. Sounds to me too harsh. KT-917 and Sansui TU9900, TU-888 are my daily rockers.

@JDJX
I have no idea about AM. As it doesn't play any role here since decades. But I don't see a conflict when using the AM loop. And for FM the Dipole will be fine.

my condolences on your purchase... ;)

on the other hand, if you're not interested in actually sitting down and listening to something playing on the radio, i'm sure you'll be quite content w/your new purchase...

Given the poor quality of radio broadcasts these days..
You can't make silk purse of of sows ear

So, If I want to sit down for some critical listening I will play an LP...... or even a CD.:)

i'd be surprised if there isn't at least one station in your area, of the several dozen on the list i linked, that doesn't provide quality content and a quality signal. if not, my bad. if so, it easily compares w/lp and cd - if you have a quality tuna.

happy listening!

When finishing a Sansui TU-505 today, I saw my TU-666 in the stack. 555, 666 and 777 have a width of 345mm. Getting one of these would be really fine.

Yeah but, I do not want to put the cart before the horse.
I want to experiment with this first Then, If I think it's worth it I will invest in something much better . :)

In any event, i am excited to to get the old Kenwood KT 2001 .

As an old audiophile, I will enjoy cleaning it and refurbishing it....... replacing the bulbs, addressing any issue with the dial cord, etc :)

I enjoy the sound from my KT-2001 but only after replacing all caps, transistors, diodes and those flimsy trim pots :naughty:

That's absolutely the right attitude. Please give us your impressions when you have it.

Keep in mind that at 73 years old and , I no longer have the golden ears that I once had.
I also have an issue with one ear due to a fairly recent medical issue that I'm working to solve ..... long story.

However, I can still plainly hear distortion.

Also interestingly, with head phones at a normal volume, my hearing seems almost normal in the ear in question .

So, either way, I will be able to get a good personal assessment of the tuner. :)

We here in BC and in most of Canadian (Con)federation get top notch analog ON-Air AM and FM-Stereo (and mono). Same for cable. But you always have your bad quality often hissy echo reverb obsessed and out of balanced fm duplex signal and bad programming which are mostly irrelevant local mostly multi culti one topic political-ish reli(gious) and tyical chit chat channels including
low funded pirate music stations (with latter often do have good programming but bad signal and or sound quality). Just like the "old days" sotospeak!

OK.... the KT 2001 tuner will be delivered Tuesday 3/30.
I have a question about FM dipole antenna ohms.

The tuner has spade connectors for both 300 ohm and 75 ohm
I have an old 75 ohm antenna with the now standard 75 ohm round "push on" connector .

So I got a new 300 ohm dipole with the needed spade connectors for the tuner.
It's made with the old style ribbon antenna wire.

Is there any real advantage of using a 75 ohm dipole?:
if not, why does all the newer hardware only have the 75 ohm input?

Everything I read on the net about it seems pretty ambiguous to me.

Yeah but that does not begin to answer my question about indoor dipoles.
Does a 75 ohm have any advantage?

BTW ....is it wise to replace power supply capacitors .....even if they look OK?
The KT 2001 has 4 axil ones
