Tuners?

Yeah but that does not begin to answer my question about indoor dipoles.
Does a 75 ohm have any advantage?
For broadcast FM on short-run indoor 75 antennae you will wont see any advantage although it is a little less susceptible to noise.

I wouldn't change. Most of these caps still have their rated capacity or even a bit more. So why changing if there isn't any leakage or whatever. Often cpa-changing reminds me of a selffulling prophecy - I spent money on this, so it has to sound way better. Six years ago i made a cross-comparison between two KR-6200. One i left as it was, at the other i changed all caps, all. Audio grade. Spend roughly €80,-. After long sessions i persuaded myself of the KR-6200 with the changed caps, sounding a touch better. But frankly spoken - I guess it has been because of the spent money for that.

Thanks... both of you. :)

I will stick with the 300 ohm dipole and will not replace the power capacitors if they look OK.

BTW I agree that us audiophiles are a somewhat strange bunch who will often hear an expected improvement even when no improvement exists.

I still wonder why all the newer tuners etc only have 75 ohm inputs.

Yeah, but why?

What confuses me is most all the 75 ohm dipoles you can get are made with just ordinary two conductor wire that looks just like thin speaker wire
There seem to be no difference in the two other than the added round push on plug that evidently also reduces 300 ohms to 75 ohms.

Of course, you can also get little adapters to change a 330 ohm to 75 ohm via an added push on plug

That is why this is confusing, If 75 ohm dipoles were originally for use with coax cable, why are all 75 ohm dipoles now made with just common two conductor wire and have become the new standard ?

Correct me if i am wrong but, isn't the small benefit said to be from 75 ohm originally from the 75 ohm shielded coax cable used?
If so, again.... why did 75 ohm become the standard when no coax is used anywhere?

Here its only the shielded one. Since ever. I remember having had in the beginning (70ies) a very "cheap cable" to the antenna for FM I used to get my favourite FM-station. Had a five element antenna. The results have been much better as with the 300Ohm Dipole. But not as good as I expected. Reception between 2 and 3 from five segments on my Kenwood KT-1000. Often Servolock did not fix the station. A friend of mine, radio technician, checked everything and told me, that I took a very cheap cable with poor shielding over 10 meters. Then we changed the cable against a better one. Suddenly the signal strength went to min. 4. Before, with the 300Ohm Dipole I only have been able to get the station at good weather conditions. But in a lousy quality. Between 1 and 1.5 on the Meter...

So, do you think it would be worth it to experiment and build my own 75 ohm dipole out of coax?
There is a tutorial on You Tube on how to do it and, I have plenty of coax .
I also have a lot of experience with electrical soldering.

Of course, I will first see how the 300 ohm works :)

Things have changed for me
The seller shipped the Kenwood 2001 with the wrong shipper that has major issues in my area, instead of their stated and promised USPS.
So they fully refunded my money and said that if it ever does get delivered I could keep it .

Now I found a pristine Kenwood 2001A which i understand is a somewhat better tuner than the 2001.
The great thing about it is it's basically sort of an open box unit that has been in his storage for years
The seller says he just took it out of the original box to test it to see if it all stilt functions properly and all works perfectly.
It will be shipped in its original box inside another protective box....with all the original paperwork, manuals etc ..
He wanted t about 4 times for this than I paid for the 2001 but i had to have it. So, I bought it .

These are the photos of the front when he just tested it

BTW, in case anyone wonders why I focused on these tuners due to my size restraints in my listening room.......

My audio rack is completely full so, I want to place a tuner on the top cube of three stacked cubes that hold all my classical LPs which is next to my rack.
The cubes are only 15 inches wide

MY other LPs..... classic rock, jazz, pop etc are in a separate area with 4 cubes.

You are absolutely. That's what today is called win win situation. And important is, what you feel about - and not the "others".

Unfortunately my english isn't good enough to write this wisdom of everydaylife. Its a wonderful description. Can't remember of something similar in German.

Your English is fine for someone whose English is not their native language :)

I got the Kenwood KT2001. UPS eventually just threw the package at the the front door of my apartment building... just to get rid of it
UPS now calls this BS a "driver release"

I was really surprised that the seller refunded al my money within minutes when I question why they shipped shipped it UPS and not USPS as stated in her listing .

I message her before I bought it to verify that the two dial bulbs where the only things that do not function properly , She assured me that was the case .
OK now I know why she even told me to keep it if delivered. It's because she lied about that only two dial bulbs were out and never told me about the bulbs for signal strength and FM stereo. strength and FM stereo were also out . You now need a flashlight to even see the signal strength meter with the bulb out as the meter is quite recessed

OK... how does it sound etc... ?
After adjusting the FM dilpole for best reception, I was surprised how good it sounds...... at least for what is billed as a mid level tuner.
Most FM stations come in crystal clear with no noise or noticeable distortion etc . I even found an AM rock station that sounded pretty decent .. for AM
Of course It's a given that most all music stations are now playing low bit rate digital files
The attraction to FM music radio in general is you never know what you will hear .

Anyway, now I am psyched to get the "like new" 2001A
This brings me to a question .
The 2001A is supposed to be a somewhat better tuner than the 2001. The 2001A has moderately better specs" (than the 2001) is what has been said about it ..At least that I what I keep reading.
However, when I compare the specs for both tuners, they seam identical.
Anyone got any info about this.?
