Today I got a pair of home made (I think) boxes at a yard sale, and what was inside but a calrad cr-12tx like these-

IIRC, the top was scuffed, but a little polish can fix that. This was advertised awhile ago too, so he might take offers seeing as it didn't sell.

Hey Bean, I must have missed the updated activity in this thread. Those calrad look like an interesting loudspeaker. Gee, for a cast basket tri-axial $75 bucks is super cheap. Never seen / heard them before. If those calrads were something like a similar Jensen audiogoons would be crawling over their grannys dead carcasse to scrap for them. Looks to be a nice cone profile on the woofer and I do like the breath-ability the basket provides the cone. I like tubes, but don't go ape over them (I do highly recommend / advocate a tube pre-amp / solid state power though).
Those Calrad may be a winner... put them through their paces and see if that's the case!

Nordmende tube unit, dual tt
I ran across a beautiful Nordmende Isabella C console at a yard sale. IIRC, it was an AM, FM, and SW x2 unit, about 4 feet long (1.2 M), gorgeous gloss finish. She said there was one minor problem, but it sounded like contacts in a selector or something. It has a dual turntable. Looked about 1960 vintage. I wasn't able to write down the tube complement, sorry.
$50, including a Sony 250 reel to reel. (Worked, but looked cheap. 2 speeds, a few tapes with country-western on them).
Also, a local crap dealer has a Dual 1229 table w/o base, looks like it was removed from a console. Or was it a 1229q?:scratch2:
I'm considering this one myself. IIRC, it was about $40.
Remember, old Duals almost always need servicing, not for the meek!

I dropped by to double-check that Dual 1229, it's just a 1229, not a 1229q. The price is $45. At this price, I don't mind picking it up for an AKer, but they better be fast! I might snag it myself.
Crap! Able is supposed to send me an email every time they have an auction -- I didn't get one for the Storeyum auction. Dammit, I'd have liked to have had a look at some of that. Did you end up going Shel?
Also like to know who got those AMT 1 speakers that were on CL for about 2 minutes tonight -- one of us? I'd have loved to have grabbed them -- $200.

Lemme just say, I was on the phone pulling off the turntable deal of the year when I saw that one...picked up my girlfriends phone and was talking to two different people on two separate phones for about 10 minutes.

Rare and Vintage: Hart 3-Way Speakers - $45
Hart Acoustics was in business only briefly in the mid '70's, but during that time they made some pretty nice speakers, as evidenced by these vintage beauties. Solid, walnut-veneered mdf cabinets with 3 quality drivers. These are what used to be called large bookshelf speakers and they are big: 26 in. x 15 in. x 12 in., weighing about 40 lbs apiece. They are surprisingly efficient(about 90db/w) for an acoustic suspension design, and can be driven to room-filling levels with a 30w/ch receiver. The 12 in. woofers provide lots of solid bass with virtually no overhang. The woofers also have doped cloth surrounds that will never need replacing. The drivers are like new. Apparently the speakers were stored for over a decade. The cabinets have the usual wear-and-tear dings after 30 years, but nothing serious. The colouring on the speaker fronts is adhesive that was used to glue the grill foam on. The speakers are fused to prevent overdriving, and even have the original labels on the back. With the treble adjusted to about +2, the soundstaging is quite impressive. These would make perfect party speakers for the rec room. The grills are still intact, but as foam is wont to do, are disintegrating.
I got these speakers free from an acquaintance, so I am not asking much for them. They are a bargain.
