I did a quick search last night, they seemed original. Maybe you are thinking of the 500m's?
It seems they are gone. I can get the ad, but it won't show in a search.
Anyway, I would have grabbed them for myself asap, but I didn't feel like driving into Van.

Vendor told me someone offered her $70 but would only go get them on Saturday. I thanked her but told her that I wasn't chasing them with a matching offer and cautioner her about the bait ('please hold for my higher offer') and switch ('these are worse than they looked...now here is my $35 offer').

Who's the guy (I assume it's a business) who keeps advertising the overpriced stuff on CL ? He / it is based in Kitsilano.
Pretty sure that's Lotusland, the old Captain's store. He has some pretty nice things in there sometimes, but they usually aren't cheap. Then again, he has rent to pay on the west side, and if you have a business, you've got to turn a profit...

You can tell I never go into downtown Vancouver...So assuming it's that store, and bearing in mind the libel laws of Canada, is it a reputable place?
I'd have to say so -- there's been a place like that there for the last 20 years. First it was The Captain's (ran for Mayor one year!), then he retired and it became this place. The fellow there sells mainly vintage electronics and stuff for musicians, has some nice things, and has seemed like a pretty good guy the time or two that I was in there. Pondered buying a nice big H/K amp there once...

I have a pretty tough time buying from an unrepentant spammer. He has some TTs for parts that I could use, but my morals say "no way".

Yeah that was my feeling... CL could do without businesses clogging the place up with every single item of inventory. Not really playing the game, IMHO.
I can't guarantee it's the same place, but I'm pretty sure -- just don't want to land the guy with a "spammer" tag when we can't be 100% certain...

Yes, it is Lotusland ...just off 10th and Alma... nothing wrong with the shop but everything is priced at 'retail' and he must add a tidy 'profit'.
My only experience there put me off ... I like the old Sansui 1000x (nifty toggles) and he had one but it was 'broken' and was not for sale ... I offered him $35 for it 'as is' and he very bruskly advised me that he could get $75 for it 'as is' on ebay ... so I suggested that he sell it there.
What have I spent on audio in the last two years ? ? Maybe $10k or so, if you include what I am picking up tomorrow (no, I'm not telling) but I then and there determined that he would not get one dollar from me .... ever!

Did you go get it, Shel? Would have been a fun thing to have. Can't do garage sales myself -- found it to be too much of a PITA. My only exception to the rule (has to be an exception ) is if I'm driving and there's one at the side of the road -- I always do a drive-by super fast scoping for speakers!

No, I never enquired about it. I have too much stuff, and too many unfinished projects.
Regarding garage sales... Often speakers are used as table legs. Drive-bys are a hit and miss affair. Of course the more sales you go to, the more gems you find, which leads to garage sale addiction and loads of unfinished projects which leads to having to pass up things like pioneer tube receivers. :tears:

Ah yes, ok... could be worse afflictions though wouldn't you say? Did I ever send you a picture or two of the stuff I was looking for? I think I recall you offering birddog services if the purchase price was minimal - and for the stuff which interests me, the price would indeed be minimal.
