I believe i have it set on 0, need to find gram weight for the cartridge.

For the moment, just turn it in or out until the tonearm is level and parallel with the platter.
That's the first step. When it is, then hold that weight in its exact spot, and just turn the dial on the front to 0 on top without letting the weight turn.
It's on page 6 of the owner's manual.

From what I've found on the net, it looks like 1.5 grams is about right for that stylus - only going by others in that range, couldn't find your exact one.

Should the arm still be set to "down" when i make the switch from 0 to 1.5

I set the counterweight to 0 while the arm was set on "down" as said in the manual.

The arm should be set to down when you do the balance.
Did you print/download the manual?
You'll want the mark 2 owners manual from vinylengine.

The manual doesn't say whether or not to put the arm back on the holder or leave it on down.

Not unless you're using a scale. If you're just using the weight dial, which will be relatively close, you can set that on up or down.

Ok, so you've got it set at 1.5.
Now turn the antiskate dial to 1.5.

Page 4 of the manual shows how to set the overhang by using the white line at the front.
Just check it and see how it is.
