Virus attack after log in

From Hong Kong?! :yikes:

I just checked my IP... it's not that one, thank goodness! Besides, I'm using a US-based proxy server lately (including right now) to surf the web. It's NFL season and it's how I get around the restrictions on watching broadcasts that are limited to USA-only. So if you check my current IP, I'm somewhere in Arkansas. :D

I feel sorry for you PC guys. I hope you get this one figured out, this is a great site and I really like reading through the posts.

The big guys are plugging away at it, so hang in there folks. If you do run into any problems, please post up the details (where/when/how) in this thread. The more information we have the quicker we can root out exactly what's going on.

i have just turned my firewall on and doing a full virus scan ..if anything has or is coming this way i will know in around 12 hours time .. clamtk av does a proper search .. this is 3rd scan this year nothing found last 2 scans .

I searched for my old "fell asleep while listening to Meddle" thread and my malware software - on my fantastic, efficient, and sexy PC-based laptop - stopped an intruder when I brought up that old thread.

As for you elitist Apple proselytizers, at least I don't have a little decal on the back of my car window advertising my fave operating system. I'm just guessing here, but that sticker is not convincing any hot babes that you are creative iconoclasts.

I think you're going to come up empty. Seems to be a drive-by sorta thing. You just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, or not.

last scan was 4th june 2011 so it cant do any harm looking ..if i get something dodgy which is very rare it will warn me about a .exe file wants too install .if i get one i will download it and take a look at it .maybe i can then find the origin and send them something to deal with ?:D

I probably shouldn't respond, but WTF. I don't think it's elitist to suggest to others that they are most welcome to join a very satisfied group of computer owners that grapple with far fewer issues. Does it come across as smug sometimes? I guess. But no one is saying anything like "oh, you're not ready for a Mac," or "I don't think a Mac is really right for you." Quite the contrary. Come try something you may well like and that will almost certainly give you less trouble.

I agree that putting an Apple sticker on the back of the car is pretty ridiculous.

Sometimes? No. Always, when it's suggested in context it usually is.

There was a guy out at work, serious Professor of All Things Apple. I think it pissed him off more that I wouldn't convert than it did for me to listen to his pontificating.

JonL. I'm just messing around (but you kinda knew that). We run Apples at my firm, as well as a PCs. I was having a bit of fun with the silly Apple stickers I see on every VW and Mini 'round these parts.

Cheers,

Ken

nothing from my end and I run virus software up to date every day, most likely happening from where you were before you arrived here

I don't think so. Too many reports saying it happened here just to be coincidental.

As you may (or may not) recall, there was an issue eventually found with the page jumping and the livejasmin porn link too that was initially met with skepticism. Not at all implying there is any sort of cover-up or blaming AK though. There is no guarantee of safety anywhere on the Internet. Intermittent/drive-by stuff is really hard to track down until there are enough leads.
