Weekly Estate and Garage sale finds (pics)

I picked these up at a garage sale over the weekend. They are in decent cosmetic condition and play fine. I thought they were worth $20.

Do yourself a favor - make recapping a priority. They're really good with vinyl, and a recap wakes them up considerably. Great score. :thmbsp:

Swatch Irony Secret Agent & Sansui TU-517

I went to an estate sale this morning and passed on a pair of Bose 901 with equalizer for $349 but did pick up a 1996 Swatch Irony Secret Agent Chronograph $7 (plus $6 for a new battery) and Sansui TU-517 tuner for $49.

Here's the one that got away today:

That's a Scott 200B tube integrated amp in wood case on the bottom. I figured most of the local audio guys would be at the Carlstadt sale (see its own thread here) so I aimed for this sale instead. Showed up 30 mins early and was #3. Talked to #1 who told me he got there 2.5 hours early and it was clear we were both aiming for the same thing, and he got to it first of course. $35.

I bought some records and the Yamaha 520 turntable which has the first AKG cartridge I've seen in person. Someone else took the tuner.

Nothing audio but found a Hakko 926 Soldering Station and 30 tip assortment for $5.00 this morning. At the same place went ahead and picked up a box with 4 individual irons and about 2lbs of solder (for $2.00 extra) too!

The pickers here are getting desperate ! They show up 3-4 hours prior to an 8am sale !!

Most of the yard sales I hit I ask if they have any stereo equipment and nearly every one of them says "Every body is looking for stereo gear, you're the 7th guy to ask me this morning".

People are so desperate they are showing up 3-4 *DAYS* early for these sales!

Just go to show you how desireable that vintage gear is nowdays !
Lots of demand, no supply !
We're talking about 33+ years old gear !
The baby boomer generation have hoarded all the good stuff and the crap was trashed or recycled !

Probably the wrong place to post this but TimeWarnerCable had a silent auction today, and I walked out with a Technics SL-1200 that needs feet, cover, cart, arm rest and probably more, and 4 Behringer Truth B2031 monitors for $135 total. Pics later today, IF it ever stops raining. Been like a monsoon all day. :thumbsdn:

I found a lot of stuff yesterday and today.
A Kobalt 10" mitre saw new in box for $70.These are selling right now for $200.I figure I can get $140 for it.
A Topeak bicycle detachable carry case for $10,good for about $55-60.

A Husqvarna Rancher 455 and 272xp,$25 each. Both need repair but have good compression and look good.Worth about $450+ (after repairs).

A Pioneer EQ GR-777 and F-449 Tuner for $50.Worth about $150.
A BIC turntable with an Empire 3000ZE cartridge for $15

A bunch of small stuff and some tools I needed
- -but I really needed a steering knuckle for my 96 Dodge Caravan and struck out on that at three wrecking yards..oh well, can't have everything:no:

Today was the Phinney neighborhood garage sale. I didn't head out until nearly 2 so almost everything interesting was long gone. Must have hit 15 sales riding my bike.

Bought these Jeff Kleinsmith posters from his family. They had a pretty sizeable stash they were selling - 3 for $10. These were my favorites. I actually attended the Tom Verlaine talk, so it was cool to find the poster.

I haven't been to an estate sale in months. Lately the flea market for regular kinds of stuff. I did get my Luxman Pd 284 amd Marantz TT2000 at the same location. $30 & $25.

But when I went to the last estate sale I think I was there about 4 to 4:30 Am for a sale that opens at 9:00 AM. They give out numbers at 7:00 AM. If you want to be anywhere near the beginning of the line, you have to be there early. At one sale, there was one person who was there at 1:00AM

Cool posters! I'd have been all over that Tom Verlaine for sure.
At least they're easy to carry home on a bike.

I was paranoid about rolling them up so riding around one handed made it a little more challenging. Effectively prevented me from buying other dumb crap though. :D
