Weekly Estate and Garage sale finds (pics)

I've been listening, not sneezing. Switched from V15-IV to Sonus Dimension 5 tonight. The sigh was just for the market price difference between stereo and mono. Even found an SQ- encoded quad recording (of a violin duet, go figure why that needed quad).

So, how do they sound??

And yeah, bummer if you planned on making a little money. Those shaded dogs are big buck items. I have a few, and I see why they're so hyped. I find myself listening to things I'd NEVER consider, just because of that.

I saw this for $450, described as "good for restoration project".
It's a shame, but I think I'll have to pass on it :)

Picked up (at 2 garage sales) some nice BPC along with decent floor speaks.

(STV-758) by Fisher for the patio, along with an older Fisher (made for Sears) Receiver that is actually VERY nice.
A 200 disc CD Changer by Kenwood - YES 200 discs, along with a Kenwood 10SVR A/V Receiver Surround unit.
Two Cassette dub decks (Pioneer and Fisher).
A Fisher MT-914 Turntable and a 5 disc Pioneer CD player model PD-m430. All remotes included and everything functions and sounds great. I will parse a few items out for my new office system.

ULTRA low price on everything is all I will say. :D

I might have taken the silver-face Fisher but passed on the rest. Is this for personal use, or to resell?

I couldn't resist for the price I paid. Let's just say, it was all less than a meal at McDonalds.

I have my stellar systems, but the Fisher is for out in the patio. This is a 3 season sun room and I don't put high end equipment out there. The Kenwoods will also be in the patio for surround sound from the HDTV and 200 CD player will be there for parties.

The rest? I'll probably give it away as it was basically FREE anyway. I'll find a local kid or kids that want to get into vinyl or a guy that needs a cassette deck. I'll probably keep the 5 disc Pioneer CD player as it has fairly good reviews and not a bad decoder. The only issue with it is the UPSIDE DOWN laser. The lens has a habit of falling out and dropping to the bottom of the case, but it's an easy fix.

The speakers sound surprisingly good. They are not highly regarded, but for what I paid (truly next to nothing) I'm impressed. Good speakers for the garage which is where they will probably end up. Eventually. I'll work them out in the patio for a season first.

I lusted after that Kenwood CD changer when it came out. 94-95 maybe? They came in silver and there was a receiver that matched. They were pretty elegant looking.

You're right about the sound. "New World Symphony" faded down to silence, then a ritard on the rest to stretch it out just a little longer than you expected, then it drifted back in again. Some of them have some loud pops; record cleaning machines are tempting me.

There are a lot of boxed single albums, with nice books and linen covers. Some of these will go, some will end up donated. The choir and musical soundtrack are going to my older sister and old choir director. But first, I have to get some shipping boxes for albums.

1$ Marantz 6100 TT

Decided to spend an entire dollar on this 6100 TT last weekend. New belt and a couples tabs of oil and it is working perfect. Came with a Stanton 680EE cart, nothing fancy but certainly functional.

You keep saying 5 disc. I've had at least 7 of those players. Aren't they 6 disc?

I have currently the PD-M630, two models up from yours. Dual D/A converters (burr brown) and while it doesn't best my sony ps1, it is damned close, and a fine sounding player.

Enjoy, and you giving the rest to some youth with a music jones is great karma!
