Weekly Estate and Garage sale finds (pics)

To get the best price you need to find several comps in similar or at least marginally close style so that you can clearly attribute it to Jere. That helps if a buyer is on the fence about it. Jere can be tough as he is all over the map stylistically. I look for his lights and fortunately he was pretty diligent about clearly signing them.

Below is a 50" x 28" William Bowie sculpture I got at a yard sale then later sold at Brimfield this year. Although unsigned, it was a textbook Bowie and the backup comps I had were not necessary. Every buyer that looked at it knew exactly what it was. It too was a $2 buy, likely the best $2 I've ever spent -

That's a nice score! :thmbsp:
I am about 99% sure its a Jere. I cant find a signature, but I have found several of them online, and they are all identical to mine. One sold on ebay for $129. Hey, I cant lose for $2. I think it would look great in the man cave with my gold metal wall clock, and black/gold table lamp, but the wife hates it! :thumbsdn:

I was returning home from a meeting yesterday and ran across a couple ESTATE SALE signs. The first sale looked more like a garage sale - the second location was a true estate sale where you walk through the house. There was lots of mid-century furnishings and decorations but nothing that really tripped my trigger.

I made my way to the garage and found this - the most heavy duty box fan I have ever seen. It's solid steel and approx. 22 inches square. I think my parents still have their similar mid 1960s model, but its lightweight compared to this one. Another buyer at the sale said he owned one like this years ago. They were designed to fit inside a window frame with the IN/OUT switch allowing you to bring a breeze into the house or evacuate hot air without changing the position of the fan.

My parents had one too in the 60's. I used to play with the "REVERSE" switch, changing direction just because it was there. Kids. I remember it was a tank. I remember them still using it when I graduated from High School many many years later.

From what I remember, it really moved a lot of air. Great fan.

you're right about the old quality, instead of the cheapas. ones the pour into the isles at Blowees and Home Dopey

My childhood memory of my parents' box fan was sitting close to the fan while it was running and making vocal noises into the spinning blades for the special effects sound. :thmbsp:

You got that right. I took it for a test spin before I paid for it. The high setting caused it to push a lot of cubic feet in a hurry! :thmbsp:

Great Score Today

Today, I picked up all this for $70 at a local garage sale:
Russound R275HC Power Amp
Russound CAV6.6 Multi-Zone Controller
Russound SMS3 (250gig) Media Server
Russound ST2 Tuner
All cables, remote for SMS3 only, no manuals.

Did pretty well at a local Boy Scouts troop annual garage sale. Got a 4 year old 8.5hp Craftsman chipper/shredder with low hours for $150, starts right up and runs fine. They had an "anything that fits in the bag is $5" deal, managed to get a Marantz DV7010 and a little Japanese-made late 60s/early 70s Zenith receiver into the bag. I played a hunch on the Zenith, knowing the way some of those OEMed Japanese units from that era were built. It payed off, all ALPS pots inside. Good for the parts bin. In the indoor part of the sale, I ran across something I'd heard of but never seen before - a Panasonic SL-701 CD-4 capable turntable. It wasn't marked, I offered $5 and they took it. The turntable itself is a rather POS BSR, but the cartridge is one of the well-regarded Panasonic strain gauge units (needing a new stylus), and the plinth contains the strain gauge electronics and CD-4 decoder. I'll pull that stuff and install it in a separate enclosure.

I got this one a few weeks back but only got to try it out last night. (Took my awhile to find my sign transformer.) It came with a large lot of post-WW2 beer signs. The latest was from the mid 50s, the earliest from '47. All lit up but only one was a neon, this one. I've had several Schlitz over the years, always red & white, never seen one with blue. It got a "Wow!" out of my when it kicked on -

Thank you!

I have two others as well and will put pics up soon. One is a lit painted-glass Knickerbocker window sign and is about the nicest I've ever seen. The colors are fantastic. The other is a lit Pickwick Ale countertop sign. Both are from the late 40s.

Picked these up at an estate sale two hours ago. Jackets had some spine damage but the vinyl was in great shape. Paid $2 for each; 45s were thrown in gratis.

Headquarters is the rarer "beard" version.

Don McLean is a second copy; GFR is a third.
