Hey folks thanks for the feedback so far. I was slightly surprised at the prices people seemed to be willing to pay for them. I have owned and listened to a pair for several years and think they are very good speakers. However I would hesitate at paying current prices. Personally if I was currently looking for vintage speakers I would want to audition a few different speakers before spending the money vintage speakers seem to be getting these days.

They go from $100-$250 CDN asking price around here.

They may be common, but I've NEVER seen a pair in Kentucky.
With that said, they're a fantastic 2 way, but I'd wager the same cash could buy a far superior modern speaker. I grabbed some 11 month old LSA-1's for 275, and they're staggeringly good.

I don't see them for sale locally very often if ever. When i picked mine up I was not familiar with the name I just took a chance. I have been considering trying something different lately.

Probably because they all end up in the GTA at silly prices.
I had three pairs at one time. All sold. Sometimes I wish I had kept a pair but there is no way I would pay $250 to get them back.

This is pretty much how mine have looked for the past 15 years. They have been moved around of course. I do need to get some oil or Howard's for them. Somewhere I have the original Dynaco Brass tags.

I now have 2 sets, the 1st was in horrible condition cabinet wise which I refinished and still use. The 2nd pair I recently bought, but one tweeter doesn't work and cabinets are rough. I haven't got around to it. I need to build a work bench in the garage first!

So which under the radar speakers of similar vintage to the A25 are worth looking out for.
Second the above. I'm holding on to my EPI M50 and 100 models. Also don't turn a blind eye to some of the Radio Shack models like the Optimus 5 and Nova 8. From slightly later the Mirage and Mission speakers are nice. My first "good" speakers were early Mission 700.

Ya I do keep an eye out for vintage Radio Shack speakers, I have only heard mission speakers in store years ago. A local store used to carry Mirage , Energy and Sound Dynamics brands all under the API umbrella great speakers at their price point.
Ditto for me in TN.

My opinion is probably warped by age. Back in college in 1973, the A25 was considered a nice small dorm speaker. I had a pair and they were decent, but rather inefficient and didn't go that low. They were inexpensive both new and used. I think small EPI and similar were also common. Hey, even at that tender age we were rockers and audiophiles! The obvious upgrade was to trade them in on large Advents (hifi dealers took trade-ins then). We've had "some" inflation (ha! ya think?) so $250 isn't crazy if they're in good shape, but I'd never pay that, figuring there are way better choices for similar money today. It's interesting what was inexpensive and often upgraded back then, A25s, Dynaco tube pre and power amps, AR turntables, M91ED cartridges and BOTL receivers of famous make, seem to be much more highly regarded today than when they were new and performing at their best. Don't get me wrong, those were/are all nice, but it's been over 40 years!
