Welcome to AK. You came to the right place for advice and treatment for addiction to the hobby.

Those speakers are more than likely what we refer to as "White Van." A guy drives around, typically in a rented van selling VERY cheap electronics to people with some line like "My boss had an install that fell thru and we need to sell these at cost."

Unless they are very cheap, I would look for something else. Do some reading hear and keep your eye on thrift stores and online spots. Something good that is affordable will pop up.

The language on the speaker labels is not English. It's likely the OP is not located on this side of the pond. Suggestions and recommendations should take that into account.

To the OP; If you let us know where you're located any advice will be more pertinent. BTW, welcome aboard.

I did a Google search of the ESL-220 and the limited results came back in German.

What I was able to decipher leads me to believe these were fairly inexpensive speakers that weren't very highly respected or regarded.

If they are cheap enough they might make some decent garage or backyard party speakers but probably not end game speakers for a serious audio enthusiast.

Some USA white van speakers have names eerily similar to well known brands. Similar enough to "fool" some people into thinking they are getting the name brand speakers.
I was wondering if the ESL in the OP's post might be a take off on the Quad ESL or the Martin Logan ESL which were legitimate fairly well known speakers.
Or it's just a coincidence. Which is possible.

Thanks guys for the welcome and for the help. These ESLs are 30€ and right now I'm not looking for some top notch boxes, just something decent for the untrained ears and loud enough for my 120 squared metars basement mancave. I believe these should satisfy with a powerful enough amp.

So... those are made in Germany and have the European Union mark on them. I can't speak to quality but I bet they are not too bad. Only your ears will tell you...

For the beginning I bought a Technics SA-400 receiver, Pioneer PL-640 turntable, JVC CD-1920 cassette deck. And I'm ordering these speakers. That's the starter budget set-up, it cost 150€ for the lot. We'll see how it sounds but I don't think it can be bad 'cause my ears aren't what they used to be. Thanks for the help guys, you'll hear from me more.
