What did you do with AV gear today?

Wired my surround channels to my front speakers and my front channels to my surround speakers.

I am listening to ZZ Top's Cinco box set of their first five albums. For some odd reason, ZZ Top's First Album, the rear speakers seamed louder than the fronts. It was like being on stage with them instead of being in the front row. The albums after that returned to a normal sound stage.

I had a couple of good HT's and have one sitting in the TV console. Haven't used it in a few years. I don't need to listen to movies at theater levels so I'm perfectly happy with the sound bar I have. Music is a different story.

For a while I played around with some vintage quad gear. It didnt get it for me :(, but I love my HT system. A good 5.1 Marantz, some klipsch surrounds and Im happy. Of coarse, it never gets used for music. That would be truly heretical.

Got into the Yamaha Rx-a740A/V and tweaked some of the innards for dialogue enhancement. Then put a bit of an angle to the centre speaker. Both alterations helped.

I wired mine that way because I can adjust the level of my Center, LS, RS, and SW, and have no adjustment for the fronts. My bookshelf's wired to the front channels (which are at the rear of the room) have 8" woofers and 1" tweeters so it works out well for me.

I just replaced a single AR18, used as a center speaker, with a newly refurbished AR92. New Mundorf caps and a freshly reformed woofer. The AR92 blends much better with my AR58S mains. Having identical mids and tweeters across the front soundstage really helps! :)

Did a little work cleaning up the media rm, figured it was about time after living here 6 months lol. Listened to a few records through the Infintys and Belles, now currently watching Voyager on Netflix through the surround setup with the Jamos.

Right now my HT is two speakers hanging off of an Onkyo AVR, plugged to a PC via optical interface. Programs are streaming video, mostly from Amazon Prime. My living room setup has gone idle; L/R and center are mismatched after sale/trade and I'm just not feeling it for an upgrade. (Altho I will probably fire it up for March Madness... get that game feel going for the NCAAs)

Thinking it would be nice to see what members are doing with Home Theater systems, and possibly gain useful information from it.

I replaced some standard speaker wires with this 16/2 shielded wire.
Nice what’s the sheilding do improve sound quality? I use Dayton 14 gauge, 12 gauge wouldn’t fit in my banana plugs .

Unsure, the shielding may eliminate noise, and it is alot easier to run than speaker wire.

I mostly use it because it's free to me. I get it from work because it comes in a kit and doesn't meet our spec, so it gets discarded.

I posted some nice sleeves in this thread to cover them after I ran them around my living room.

Is the thick plastic coating on thicker cables shielded? Very nice free cables save as many as you can . Lol awsome !!!:beerchug: Free cables awesomeness

It's two 16g wires covered with the braided wire shielding and the shielding covered with the white plastic coating, but yeah, good enough for free.

Connected my Android phone to my AVR via a Bluetooth receiver connected to the VCR channel on my AVR.

Sounds great and I actually had to turn my powered sub down.

Guess when I titled this thread, I should have used AV gear instead of home theater gear because I like to see everything that's going on.

Like I cleaned and lubed my Pioneer PL-570 turntable this morning which really doesn't apply to the title.

Not an F`g thing !!
There`s a 99 +% chance my overly complicated HT system will function properly, and without issues, in an hour, or so, when I fire it up, it`s been trouble free for close to 10 years, and I like it that way..

Yes, a bold and presumptuous statement by me, but I do electrically coddle & protect it, so that it has a high probability of functioning as it`s supposed to, and if it does not, I will post my failure & dismay here, so you folk`s who have read this can pounce on me with great glee and wag your finger/s in my face !!

We`ll see !!

Mercy Sakes Alive on me..

Edit: update .. And it worked perfectly, as I expected.
With 5 tube amps in the system, there is always the question of power up tube failure, but Mac tube amps are very reliable, and conservatively designed IMHO/E.
