What is it with ADS speakers that some folks are so high on?

I had a set of custom wood stands built that match the F800 specs, Can anyone recommend a stain color that would match my L810s? Im thinking minwax gunstock but not 100%.. If anyone knows what stain would be a match please let me know.

I have ads L520s with the metal grills. They are not the most aesthetic speakers. However, they are the only speakers I have ever owned that make me smile every time I listen to them. They do everything right. I brought home a pair of kef ls50's recently to make sure. Not even close. I don't even try anymore. I use them with a Sony gx909es receiver and an Entech 205.2 DAC.

just coincidence, some one is testing every phono stage
he use l730 and l520
maybe that is the best?

LOL... just recieved my clean set of L570/2 with metal grills....very nice!....but was noticing some kind of liner inside grills....does this need to be removed for proper sound?
Don't remove. I believe the cloth function is to keep dust off sticky surfaces of mids and tweeters. At least on my L880s.
I'm sure they were designed with any change from liner in mind

My 1590's were the same way. I just played them minus the grilles.

I left the liner in place. I did listen to them with and w/o the grills on but really didn't notice much difference. I'd say leave the liner in for the reason @Old Guy8 mentioned. My L880s were sticky too.

Does anyone know of a parts or repair shop for ADS? We have a pair of L2030 since the 80's. In our last move the binding post for one of the speakers seem to have been stripped and they will not tighten. If anyone can offer some advice I would greatly appreciate it. I has always been a standing joke as to which was more important to my husband the speakers or me and now that they have a problem the answer is becoming very clear.

Most any electronics repair shop should be able to replace the dual binding posts that have failed.
Wouldn't be hard to do but removing the cup with those parts might need removal of a woofer in order to push it out, depends on how tight the fit is as ADS made these cabinet air tight.

An option some use is a dual banana plug that holds the wires and plugs into the speaker's binding posts Dual banana plugs just have both wires and single banana plugs would work, too but be a bit more fiddly installing them.

Where are you located so you can get some recommendations of shops that can do this.

As mentioned above Richard So does most repairs, but again as mentioned above he's on vacation and will be some time before he'll be available again. I repete what Blue Shadow said above, any tech should be able to fix the binding posts. Welcome to AK! You have a very special speaker there. As you know. You made me laugh on the who's more important.

I was given these L620s for free last March. They were a family friend's father's that he purchased new in the late 70s or early 80s - not sure when this model came out.

Finally got around to hooking them up to the "B" speakers of my Pioneer QX-9900 last week and placing them in our dining room. Wow! Jazz and classical sound amazing. Although there are a few cosmetic issues, I am really impressed with the clarity of these compared to the Wharfedale W60s that are the "A" speakers on the QX (and in a different room). I will say that one of the L620s sounds slightly "muffled" but overall these are terrific and I can see why they have a following. I was not familiar with ADS before these but I am glad I have them.

Can anyone recommend a speaker stand for these? Or can they stay on the floor?

Anything that gets them up some and has the tweeter at or pointing to (tilted stand) the listener's ears. Can be step stools or plant stands or real speaker stands. Something strong and solid, fits your decor and works in your environment with approval of those in the home.

Just my opinion/experience with ADS and Canton soft dome tweeters and midrange drivers. It's not critical to have them point straight at your ears. Because of convex shape, they disperse the sound well.
That said, I think bookshelf speakers are usually less boomy when not on floor or right at other room boundary walls. Experiment with stools, end tables etc. Trial and error. Let your ears tell you.
Enjoy
