What was the last movie you watched?

Rancho Deluxe (currently free on Roku and Tubi I think) -- I wanted to watch this because of the Jimmy Buffett soundtrack and Jimmy cameo performing "Livingston Saturday Night" (in a bar scene). Jimmy was a genius with lyrics and melodically, but there isn't as much Jimmy music as I expected/hoped and the movie itself is pretty poor and aimless in my opinion. I'd probably rate it about a 4 to be honest. If you're a Buffett fan, that probably only raises it to about a 5 (not enough Buffett to help).

Bear in mind, though, that I thought "The Big Lebowski" was equally aimless and pointless -- and tons of people love that movie -- so some might like Rancho Deluxe for the same reasons. Not me though :(.

Alita: Battle Angel
(2019)

It is a Bob Rodriguez film I'd never heard of until this week. I liked it. Cameron and Landau also involved in the production.

The thing is begging for a sequel / part two.

Carolina. Caroline. (2025)

We really enjoyed it. Both lead actors awesome and the female lead, well, I don't know what to say, but she (another Australian actress) gives Margot Robbie a run in the aesthetic stakes.

I really, REALLY liked that one!

I agree..the world needs a sequal. But a good one, please.

Out of Africa (1985) - Meryl Streep and Robert Redford.

Wow. we were just scrolling through the list of films on Netflix and Emma said "I haven't seen that one", so off we go!
No extra charges - part of the package (I'm dropping iNetflix for a while at the end of the month)
Redford did it 10 years after he did The Great Waldo Pepper, and a year since his death. A Sydney Pollock joint.

Took in "Afghanistan: Inside Australia's War", a military documentary wherein the soldiers share their takes {first hand) on this past debacle

They don't hold back on their "comments", and one gets to see guerrilla warfare up close and the resulting ramifications...both during and after.

The production is unabridged, sad and meaningful!

Finally took in "The Brutalist" (2025)

Could only find three AK reviews on this production that won three Oscars.

For me, it was a dark somber effort, with several themes being offered.

The acting is intense, as is the mood for the most part.

Why this production never garnered the "Best Picture" Oscar, I'm not sure...as others have as well.

It's a 3hr+ take in, with an "Intermission", which you will put to good use!

Now Voyager (1942) Bette Davis and Paul Henreid.

This movie receives rave reviews, people say it's Bette's best film, well it's not IMO, (that's probably All About Eve, but even Baby Jane is better than this.)
Yes, she is outstanding as always (got nominated for an Oscar) but after the initial setup of Davis being a reclusive spinster (thanks to her overbearing mother) the movie is mostly a slow, boring Soap Opera with ridiculous, outdated ideas about Psychiatry. (you could say the same about Psycho, but at least that's not boring).

10 Cloverfield Lane
(2016)

Not watched it since its initial release, still holds up.

Forgot to report that I watched the first one, i.e., Cloverfield (2008) a couple nights previous.

Got the third - The Cloverfield Paradox - ready to view tonight.
