What's a cool looking receiver?

The look of an airplane console is probably what I'm looking for. Anyway, those pics are unreal. The ones on this page from BigTuna are just crazy.

I think if I had the money to just buy whatever I wanted it wouldn't be as special. The experience of just looking at all this cool stuff and NOT being able to just go purchase it immediately makes it more special. Maybe life shouldn't be just getting all you want. It robs you of something by just getting something with no sacrifice at all.

(I went to the clubs tonight. Do you realize how bad music has gotten? I mean some is cool but very, very little in the clubs I was at tonight. A lot of guys asking to dance with me, and I didn't have the ambition to tell them that i wasn't going to dance to that crap. This was a totally drunk post. Did not drive btw.)

Right on Julie!:thmbsp:

From a 1-10, she's an Eleven GX!! Awesome sound and a beautiful face. And the size of this sweetie is enormous!!!

yeah! Just look how small that car is in comparison! :D

yeah muse is good. I'm more of a White Stripes/Black Keys kinda guy though. I can recognize Muse's talent for sure. There are some other new bands that are good..but you probably won't hear them in a club, which was my point :)

for me, the ultimate coolness is open reel:

I had one of those, back in the day. Sold it when I got my Nakamichi cassette deck. The Nak simply kicked the snot out of the pioneer in sound quality. I still think those rack mount Pioneer RTRs were cool looking.

Heck... I'm 28 and I can't stand club music.
I usually wanna throw on some old Boston or Floyd... maybe a little Johnny Winter and some Todd Rundgren. The stuff I want to listen to is definitely not dance-club music.
*sigh*
Maybe I was brought up backwards, but synth and bass and rapping really fast don't automatically make a good song... I was brought up on vinyl (33's and 45's) and old hissy tapes and an old 19" Curtis Mathis tv.
Don't get me wrong... there is good music out there nowadays (Mumford and Sons is a great example), but not enough of it. Even drunk, I can (carefully) pull any record out of our collection and throw it on and it'll be a good song (see here: http://ambrandt.servehttp.com/records.htm for what comprises my collection)

I don't remember the model number anymore... sold it when we lost the house and had to move, but we found a nice freebie once. A little old neighbor lady was throwing out a 1963-65 RCA Victor console stereo. 14 tubes, 'magic eye' tuner, separate AM/FM tuner knobs, bass and treble that wouldn't quit, original speakers and tubes as far as I knew, 4-speed turntable (16, 33, 45, 78) with a reversible needle. Sold it for $50 to a computer geek friend in the Twin Cities.
I don't have any pics of it... didn't even have a digital camera back then.
Kind of still kicking myself for getting rid of it... it needed the mother of all refinishing jobs, and maybe even building a new case for it would've helped it, but we were losing the house and couldn't afford the space for something that big, so it had to go.

Ok, you've made me do it. I'm bringing out the B&O, the Beomaster 3000-2 to be specific.

Yeah I know it doesn't have any meters and not many lights (they almost all need replacing anyway) and the dials or knobs are not conventional...but ain't it purty? :D

The Bad (we saw the newsprint version of this Yorx above....):

The Fisher 500:

I stand corrected. Just found that in an image search, didn't pay enough attention to the label....

They are very similar to look at, and of course very pretty....

Believe me when I say that is where the similarities end. The RX-1203 is 120 watts/ch while the TOTL RX-1603 is 185 watts/ch- a true beast with back-breaking potential. Heavier than my SX-1250 by at least 10-15 pounds.

Posting this one because I've not seen it on here and I just picked one up. Kenwood KR-6050.

Like this? It doesn't have a power amp so it's not actually a receiver.

Here's a thread about it.

This should not have been let to go by without comment. That's the Setton RCS-X1000, it's vanishingly rare, it won the top industrial design award in France in 1978 (the year after it came out), and it is too sexy for anything.

It's just wierd that no mass producer ever tried running with this concept....

That is a real cool looking controller there. I also really like that Series 20 gear in the background (A27 Integrated Amp and F28 Tuner)...may or may not be biased because I own those pieces as well! Great looking receivers in this thread...makes meh wish I kept that darned Sansui 9090 that needed work and fixed it (To be fair, it really needed a lot of work since pre-amp and amp sections were dead on it, plus a wiring glitch with the lights).

Sorry I don't have any gear pics to contribute - all my stuff is seperates. The only receiver I have is my plain jane Onkyo TX-SR500 for the PC surround, and my not so plain Denon AVR-4802 (Looks cool, but not in the same way these other ones on here do).
