I am always looking for amps and I turn down buying some for the fear of no parts avail.i Thought almost everyone has a experience of the great deal that cant be fixed.

i would dare say that once things started getting digital displays, the proprietary parts started popping up.

I would say the dual core caps in some top Marantz receivers are unobtanium. The Power Packs in KR-9600's if bad will make them door stops. Various IC chips will also stop units cold. VFETS in some Yamaha and Sony amps are no longer available.

Besides the ICs for the KR-9600, the ICs for the KA-9100 and KA-8300 are also unobtainium.

What about the yamaha m80? Heard they become doorstops after a while...

Heard where?

I call FUD.

They'll keep running if the corrosive glue issue is attended to. Yamaha is not the only brand to experience this issue.

i know personally the gas amp has a few no longer parts
like stated above it was the amp i loved

The amps with the hardest parts to get are happened to be the ones you can't live without them. Anything else you can fix, they have no value. The ones you can't fix are unobtainum so they worth any pennies.

The parts you can't find will be the parts you need.

Here's some indicators of hard to find parts:

IC modules (Many STK units don't have good quality replacements available)
VFET transistors (Sony and Yamaha used them)
Early period Germanium transistors
Sanken transistors are hard to source (many Sansui units used them)
Delco transistors used in older Phase Linear amplifiers.

There's more out there but some idea of units with specialized parts issues.
