Why is good audio a man thing?

I did know one woman who was REALLY into the equipment side of things ....- she was a lesbian.

I know of a very similar case, a co-worker of my ex-girlfriend, who was into car mechanics and also after my friend!

First, what percentage of members here are female? anyone know? I would bet it's under 20%. But then the question becomes WHY? I've never heard of a "lady cave" or any place where women go to enjoy great music.

Why is it always a man thing? We know they enjoy music, but they just don't come close (normally) to our obsessiveness about the equipment. You pretty much never see female salespeople at an audio store either, come to think of it.

You never seem to see female machinists either. There must be something in male genes that makes us more particular about getting to, or near, perfection.

Here there is a related thread: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=67254

One of the mysteries of life. Ever hear one guy say to the other guy "do these pants make my butt look big"? Goes with the gender I guess.

Yup..

Ever hear one guy tell another guy "want to come to the bathroom with me?

:scratch2:

It's quite simple, women don't like competition from other women, nor anything else that takes attention away from themselves. When they're away, you should be miserable and when they're in the house, you're supposed to only listen to them.

Where do you think that the stereo fits into this scenario?

Best Regards,
TerryO

Nowhere. :sigh::no::nono::scratch2::smoke: Stereo just doesn't fit into that equasion at all.

I think we aught to let women rule the world, have all the hard jobs, jessss, give em all the jobs! It's thier turn anyway. Then we could stay home, relax, and listen to music! LOL. When they come home 'we' could 'tell' them what a hard day 'we' had.

Only joking.

Bottom line...I give up. They don't understand anything unless they are doing it, or it's their idea, then it's correct. All your ideas are wrong but all their ideas are excellent and it has to be done immediately, or, why haven't you done that already??? Accept it, that's the way it is. And it's gettin worse. I'll say something, it's wrong. Then 1-2 months later the wife will tell me 'exactly what I said in the first place' and it's 'her idea!' and we have to do it 'right now'. I'll have a big rather difficult job to do. Then I start it and the wife will immediately start telling me that I'm doin it all wrong and she will start telling me 'exactly how to do it'. Even if it is machinery related. Sound familiar???

Example: I have a sit down lawn more. The battery is dead. I said we need a new battery. She said no we don't, it's fine, we just need to charge it. So we throw a quick charge in it just to get it going. We do this time and time again. Bottom line...we still have a lawnmore with a dead battery. Sound familiar??? I give up. Then she grabs the heavy duty battery charger and the 'light duty 2 prong household extension cord' to charge the battery in the lawnmore, without even disconnecting it. 2 strikes in that sentence. Lucky the house doesn't burn down. What can you say. I grab the 'heavy duty 3 prong extension cord'. Guess we will be doing this for years to come. (not really, I'm getting a new battery this week...and I'll probably never hear the end of it. Why did you buy a new battery when the other one was just fine?????????????????????)

Women are always right and men are always 'as dumb as a bag of rocks'.
Women can't even get along with women. So men don't stand a chance.

Stereo does not fit into this equasion. Unless it's nice speakers for her computer! Then it has to be done like yesterday.

Just the way it is. It's accepted. Got to learn to live with it. There is no way you can beat it. It's unbeatable. And...were suppose to be 'mind readers'. You should just know exactly what I'm thinking. (uhhhhhh?????)

Just some observations, don't want to burn anyone's wires, just the fact's of life. Get over it.

All is good.

My wife doesn't care much about the stereo, she's more into TV and movies. She did like the Klipsch Heresies I had, in fact one afternoon when they were doing a spookily-convincing job of making it sound like Bruce Cockburn was in the room she remarked how good they sounded. She liked the walnut cabinets too. She was upset when I sold them a few years ago to fund some DIY monitors (6.5" 2-ways.) I didn't realize this until I heard her lamenting on the phone that "Todd got rid of those nice speakers I liked." I love my monitors, but miss that horn sound, so maybe she'll be happy if I lasso up some KG4's or Fortes? :D

My girlfriend is "into" good sounding stereo.....She just doesn't care what makes it go, as long as she can push the ON button, and it goes, that's all she cares about..... she has a Marantz 2220b and a Harmon Kardon 75+ with 4 Dynaco A-25's. They don't get excited about 400 watts per ch., ribbon tweeters, 15" woofers, 4 bbl. carbs, headers, 6 speeds, posi trac.,7 mm mags, a cold beer, a good dog, fishing, hunting, 4wheel drive, the same way "we" do. But then again my frickin' clothes NEVER MATCH!!!!!!

I think you need to make amends by getting a new set of Heresy IIIs or at least a nice set of Belles.

Even in ancient times men were always in charge of the drum...

Boys grew up with wagons. Girls grew up with dolls. That's the whole thing right there.

Nothing wrong with either. Just women don't like stereos unless it's "pretty" and has a hyped commercial name. Doesn't matter how it sounds, as long as it 'look's new and pretty' in the house. Bose and Sony are most preferable. For the 'looks' and the name. To them it's a show off thing 'only', never to be played. It doesn't really matter what it 'sounds' like.

Bose and Sony. Ohhhhh, you have Bose! And Sony! I wish I had that! And it has to be 'brand new' and look pretty. Dolls.

Guys will go for the older quality amp, with the nicks and whatever, that cranks great sounds. Wagons.

And women will say: when you gonna get that ugly piece of $*%& out of the living room??? Well, that ugly thing happens to be an AU-111. Like that.

Women want to impress visually. Guys want something that sounds great and don't care about much about how it physical 'looks', but if it looks great, so much the better!

Yep...my wagon has a bunch of dents, the paint is peeling off...but the wheels are in great shape, it's lubed, and it sure hauls 'stuff'.

Oh, that's a pretty doll you have.

Wagons and dolls.

I wasn't going to open this thread since this subjects been beat to death. I'm glad I did. This is one of the funniest posts I've read in a long time! You hit it right on the nail head! Get it?

Why is good audio a man thing? Because the smart woman can figure out she doesn't need to lift a finger - her obsessed man will eventually stumble into something good.

It is called division of labor.

Rather than ridicule it, let's flip the situation on its ear - how many men here let their spouse/significant/girlfriend make most/all the stereo decisions?

Anyone?

Needles and Pins, Needles and Pins...
When a man marries, his trouble begins.

And one I made up and stuck to this one for 43 years, and still went to sea for another 13 years:
If you ever get a chance to go back to sea...GO.
If you ever get a chance to get married, say NO.

The blue one 'really looks nice'!
I like the pink one.
Ok. :sigh:

or (I've needed a stereo rack bad for the last 4 years):
Honey, I just found a Professional 'Solid Steel' stereo rack, exactly like the one I've been looking for, on ebay for $450, way less than 1/2 price!
I don't like the way that looks, you better not get 'that' one!
And I STILL DON'T HAVE A DARN STEREO RACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do you like THAT GARBAGE?
That garbage happens to be a Mint Sansui TU-717 audiophile tuner that sounds simply wonderous!
It looks 'OLD'! Can't you just get a new one???
(what more can ya say???) - - or: why is audio a man thing??
Yeah, I'll rush right out and get a new one and make sure it says 'Sony Digital' on the front. That's the good stuff!!!!!! For sure!!!!!!!!
The Sansui tuner stays right where it is, sounding wonderous!

Facts of life in a joking way. But it ain't no ... joke.

It's not that bad...but almost at times.
