Why is good audio a man thing?

Man and women were created with special different gifts. The man likes big, strong heavy duty equipment, and the women likes pretty things. Put the both of that together and you get a powerfull , but good looking sterio.
Women , know how to make a home, look like home, all the nic nac's etc, makes the home look great, they have a gift for that. My wife onnce left me, and took all the fine little nic nacks and flowers and on the wall pictures with her. But I still had my sterio, the house looked more like a work shop, then a home, that's when I really noticed it. I finally got my wifey back , and she put everything back in place again. Looks like a home again, they have that very special gift, a priceless gift, that I appreciate.
Not known at that time, it was the onset of M.S. , that made her world look dark.

It's actually very simple. Men are taught early in life that sometimes the SMART think to do is shut up and listen. They're just trying to make it a more pleasurable experience.:thmbsp:

Is that where a large, hairy woman beats a man at a singles bar then drags him back to her cave to cook him for dinner?

There. I fixed that for you.

One big room
One big window
one urban camofloge car
one suitcase
one bed
one chair
one table
one sofa
one lamp
one phone
one sink
one fork
one knife
one spoon
one shoe
one sock
one big work shop!
one ticket to go see ELP
one slab of ham.
one loaf of bread
one jar of mayo.
one head of lettice
one bottle of 'Early Times' burbon
one Japanese beer (but you may need to get one more!)
one sushi dinner in the one fridge.
one diet pepsi
one pack of cigs
one zippo lighter
one great resturaunt in Pattaya.
one favorite hotel room in Singapore
one post card from Tokyo
one pair of beat up jeans just the way you like em.
one perfect fitting belt
one favorite shirt
one pair of Bally shoes
one ballcap
one water bottle.
one key
one key chain so you don't lose your one key.
one passport wallet for your one passport
one small portable stereo (the kind you can plug a cd player in with 'rechargable' batteries for 'great sounding' very small speakers with good bass)
one cd case (with cds)
one airline ticket 'one way'!
one 'deep sea Ship'
one Perfect!!
one Bliss, kickin in Phuket.

If not, just go outside and get one taxi to take you to one specific party place.

one happy 'all the time' guy!

At least, that's how it 'was'. Life was fun. Comfortable to me means I don't have to carry my 'one' 11 x 23 inch 'home made' canvas air line bag that fits in the overhead. Wash it only 'one time', that way you'll look like 'one local' when you show up to you one destination. And if it doesn't fit in the bag...it don't go. Period.

That's it.

Married life is ok.

A ship is better.
One cup of coffee on one bridge with one sandwich, with one steering wheel (helm), going to one more place to have one more great time at one more cool international joint.

Thinkin about the one place your going to go when you get paid off!

It was fun. Married life is ok too. Every'one' has to retire someday and go to thier one designated place called 'home' someday...

But...it is nice to have more than 'one' cloths hanger!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL (but it's not necessary). One works just fine.

And...all this with 'zero' problems: One Priceless situation!

A MAN thing? Right. Lots of women get into audio and we all know we're just joking and passing the time taking the piss out of ourselves and of the sexes.

So ladies let's here from some of you... Come on, I know you're out there. Are we loser town rejects (off now to seek a village that needs an idiot) or is this really a male hobby? Are we by the nature of our sex doomed to follow some quixotic hobby that we know where perfection is unobtainable or is some other operand at work here? I don't know...

It's weird, because I would bet just about anything that there are more women hackers/IT admins then there are self-professed women audiophiles or stereo geeks...

...which would show it's not necessarily a "techie"/hardware/electronics thing. I've even seen puuhlenty of women who knew what they were talking about on Revision3 ... or as a guest on TWIT but seeing women that appear in any stereo/2-channel rag or convention or whatever that can accurately describe say how a speaker transducer works is like finding diamonds on your front lawn or something. I've definitely never known a gal who could do that.

Sorry westend. When I posted I just jumped to the last post and posted. Had I looked first I'd have seen your post.

We haven't really defined good audio. You mean like with a keg of beer, and Dan Hicks whispering sweet nothings through the Heresy's or Sansui's?

First, what percentage of members here are female? anyone know? I would bet it's under 20%. But then the question becomes WHY? I've never heard of a "lady cave" or any place where women go to enjoy great music.

Why is it always a man thing? We know they enjoy music, but they just don't come close (normally) to our obsessiveness about the equipment. You pretty much never see female salespeople at an audio store either, come to think of it.

You never seem to see female machinists either. There must be something in male genes that makes us more particular about getting to, or near, perfection.

Because audio does not make "us" look pretty. :D

Men delude themselves that size matters in most things, but a woman knows that size matters only in one thing (er...I mean, the size of her husband's pay check).

It's quite simple, women don't like competition from other women, nor anything else that takes attention away from themselves. When they're away, you should be miserable and when they're in the house, you're supposed to only listen to them.

Where do you think that the stereo fits into this scenario?

Best Regards,
TerryO

I think we have a winner! (and people wonder why I'm thrice divorced! LOL)

You sailors are all the same, talk about the beach when you're on the boat and talk about the boat when you're on the beach.....:D

I came home too, USMM-AB, Tankerman "A", LFG, LNG,Jr. Eng.:thmbsp:

Being in my 20's and still living at home, I find that my mom is as willing to indulge my hobby as anyone. Technically the new Yamaha amp I have on the way is a birthday gift from her :)

I don't know. I guess most women aren't interested in this hobby for some reason. That's not to say if there are any that they don't know their stuff. The irony is that if there are woman in this hobby I bet most of them might even be better than at least some of us guys at it! You would be surprised. I never thought I'd even see a woman who likes say, Rush for example, but I can tell you they are out there.
I don't know, perhaps a lot of it stems from women not really getting a fair shake all these years and then they end up just being dismissed.
I'm just guessing, but I also note that a lot of women can get a bit put off or what have you when we guys bring home a new peice of gear or talk shop or whatever. Just human nature I quess.

Most, or at least many, the greater majority anyway, of women are not into big quality home stereo systems, or anything that your into. 'Your' taking up too much of 'my' space in her house! If they are into any type of sound system it would be a 'their computer stereo speaker systems' on 'thier computers', that they just let you use, even though you bought it, like the house.

That's what women are into, not your quality system, and they just can't figure out why in the world you would want that big ugly stereo when you have a stereo right here on the computer??? And they will keep telling you until thier last dying breath that 'thier' computer stereo sounds so much better than 'your' stereo. And when are you going to get that TT on that slab of marble...off the floor?

What's 'yours is ours' and what's 'mine is mine', and I know better than you. Who knows??????????? That's just the way it is. It's mindboggling.

It's not that bad, just jokin around.

Boys grew up with wagons.
Girls grew up with dolls.

I once knew a woman recording engineer. I learned a lot from her.

Turns out she used to be a man....

Of course, this doesn't prove anything about men and women, but I thought I'd add my memory of an old friend to the conversation.

clarification

The real point I was making is NOT that women don't like music or don't get excited about particular artists, but that women don't get into the equipment the way we do. They don't seem to care about taking their sound system to that next level. Of course they can enjoy music in general as much as we do. But they don't seem interested in really high end stuff.

Go into a high end audio store and see if there are any females on the sales staff. See if there are any lone female customers.

I have a hypothesis that has to do with how we evolved. In prehistoric times, the men went out and did the hunting; women stayed home and took care of the children and "the cave". The evolutionary forces cause men to be more aware, alert, and sensitive to their surroundings. Perhaps it would make sense then that men have more precise hearing and can enjoy subtle details in music.

The simple fact is that you don't need the best and most expensive equipment in order to hear the music.

Money should be conserved for important things, like shoes.
