WiiM WiFi Streamer

So what’s the general consensus in this? My Chromecast audio has been horrible with Tidal and Qobuz recently. Does this play seamlessly no drop outs etc. how’s the built in Dac or should I output to my Vdac II

I’m an early adopter of the CCA. While it has the occasional brain cramp, such as, the app loses connection to the actual stream, it is still my daily streaming device. I start my work day by launching a CCA stream and 8 hours later I disconnect. While I work I use Pandora premium or TuneIn. Not HD but very satisfactory while working.

I use mine several hours in a row, out in my garage where the WiFi signal isn't as strong as it is indoors and haven't had any issues with it--I typically use Pandora out there as I'm working. If WiFi is weak, Google used to sell an Ethernet adapter that worked alongside the USB power input. I've streamed Qobuz 24/96 to the garage with no problems, or will fire up Roon and send hi-res titles to the garage with only a rare hiccup every so often. The CCAs in the house all work with no problems. In fact, I play three CCAs, two hubs and two Nest Mini speakers as a group while I'm working in the house and they rarely ever give me a problem.

Streaming problems are most likely due to WiFi quality and signal strength. Ever since I upgraded the house to an enterprise-grade WiFi access point, everything in the house works so much better.

For casual/background use, the audio output of the CCA is fine. Since it does have an optical output, it can be fed into a DAC if using in a better system. It won't outplay streamers costing hundreds or thousands of dollars but for its cost, it does a respectable enough job. (I bought some of the last batch available at $15 each...so yeah, seriously, I will never expect the ultimate audio quality from something that cost so little.)

Another interesting device that uses the LinkPlay architecture. Looks like a simple way to integrate vintage amps, without even the need for RCA cables. Of course, it can be used as an endpoint for LMS, or via one of the MANY apps available for this architecture, as listed in this thread.

Are you going to get one and check it out for us? We are counting on you to keep us on the right path with these options.

No, looks like it's only available from Europe. The guy on the Klipsch forums has a pretty thorough review, though he apparently isn't aware of all the different ways to control/integrate it.

A test. Running the Chrome browser in a Linux VM on my ChromeBox. Running a slightly modified version of PulseAudio-DLNA as a service to redirect all Linux audio to any of my DLNA/Sonos/ChromeCast devices. Here is RP in Chrome, casting from a Linux VM to one of my LinkPlay boards.

Being a retired techie, this is my idea of fun, lol.

Greek to me. Which is why I recently purchased a Bluesound Node 2i.

The native controller apps for Android and iOS offer the same simplicity for the LinkPlay devices as Sonos/Bluesound, with MUCH better Qobuz integration, at far less cost. They can also be controlled from LMS. This is just another demonstration of their use from Linux.

thanks for shinning a light on a good value option. i sent a link to this thread to a friend who was looking for a streamer on tight budget and he let me know that he is loving this.

Im sure you are correct. But Bluesound makes it plug and play. I am not a techie.

...and for the true Linux geeks, here's RP Eclectic Mix playing from the command line to a LinkPlay board via WiFi/DLNA in FLAC.
