WiiM WiFi Streamer

Welp looks like the Sony ES receiver I was using with my WiiM mini is dead. Trying to decide if I get another receiver/integrated amp or get the WiiM amp. Any suggestions? It’s used in a shed workshop where only have one other source (the TV). The place is dusty so I like the idea of a sealed device like the WiiM amp.

If your source is primarily/solely WiiM Mini, I can't see the need for a receiver at all.
Regarding the WiiM amp (US$300) you are paying for amplifier plus streamer ... but you already have the (same) streamer - so get a Fosi Audio V3 and keep your setup flexible, while saving money. Fosi V3 with 32V 5A power supply is presently US$125 with free shipping direct from Fosi.
 
Sorry, just noticed you have a TV as a second source - unfortunately that's where Aiyima/Fosi/SMSL amps fall down - lack of inputs.
OK, plan B - Sony STR-DH190 is a well regarded budget amplifier for just US$200.
 
WiiM Vibelink could be suitable since it's only an integrated amp with no streamer built in. Two digital inputs, optical and coax, and one set of RCA analog inputs, so you could use the optical TOSLINK from the TV into the Vibelink and the analog outputs of the WiiM mini into the Vibelink's RCA inputs, unless the WiiM mini has a coaxial digital output I'm forgetting about.

Though that Sony mentioned above is cheaper, it doesn't have digital optical input, so if your TV only has optical out and no analog out, you're stuck.
 
Thanks all. The TV does have analog outs - that's what I'm using now.

But - the receiver started working again last night. It's had problems turning on (basically I push the button and nothing happens) for a while now. I'm going to see if I can dig up an old remote for it; maybe that will work better - switch might be going bad. Good suggestions though for when I do have to replace it.

Those mini-amps are great -- you bring up a good point that it's kind of shocking that none of them (especially Fosi since they are regularly introducing new products) don't have any multiple input offerings (easy enough to use an external RCA switch, but would be nice to have multiple inputs built in).

I'm not a fan of BOTL receivers from the major brand. I've not tried the Sony, but I did have the Yamaha briefly (I've written about this in other threads) and I'd take any of my Fosi, Nobsound, and even old Lepai micro amps over that Yamaha. Higher end Yamaha's are great, but not BOTL. Suspect it's the same with Sony BOTL, but just a guess.

The popular auction site often has very inexpensive third-party new remotes for old equipment if you search for a remote for your brand/model receiver.

Oh I'm sure I already have one. Just need to find it - buying one may be easier LOL.

I've had lots of Sony ES gear through the years and still have some remotes.
 
Another worthwhile option - the Aiyima A80, a TPA3255-based amplifier with inbuilt DAC. Listed at $230, but on sale on AliExpress for $180.
Still only single-anlogue input, but its DAC adds USB + coaxial S/PDIF + optical S/PDIF inputs.
Connect your TV to the optical S/PDIF input, and your WiiM Mini to either the analogue input or the USB input. Switch between these inputs via IR remote.
 
not sure when this came out, but there is now an app for Firetv and AppleTV for Wiim. Maybe my Firetv and Wiim Pro in the living room will get more use now. I had a PC running the app, but that was much more of a pain.

I should mention, you can blur the background like in the Prince photo above or just go with a colored background like the Queen photo in this post.

Yeah, me too. And yes, it seems like an improvement. I had been playing around with a regular equalizer for a while, but never felt like I could really dial it in.

Once when I ran the room correction, it did a separate left and right scan, but I can't figure out how I did that. It gave the best results.

I looked in my Mini release notes and it says it's available.

I downloaded the Wiim Home app for my notebook but can't find anything for room correction.

Appears to have been added earlier this year. Sorry for outdated reply.

Access is via gear icon.
 
Saved the correction then switched between off and on. Seems to increase bass a lot. Had to make adjustments to the low end to have it sound right.

Ended up turning it off.
