WiiM WiFi Streamer

I played with that for a while but decided it just wasn't worth it. The system sounds wonderful as is.

My system is in my signature. No EQ, no tone controls.

I certainly wasn't suggesting otherwise.

In my case, I use it with one of my systems to good effect. In the other system with a Wiim, nope.

My main system is in a hard room, wood floors and ceiling, full wall of glass and a stairwell right next to the stereo. The room correction is a nice plus to have.

Wiim's room eq relies on the mic in your phone/tablet/PC. The mic's frequency response and pickup pattern are unknown. If you get good results from Wiim's eq it's just luck. It's probably equally likely that you'll get a bad result.

Yeah, it really sucks. Good thing it was free.

I ordered one of these just a few days ago. Don't have it yet, but looking forward to giving it a try.

Which mic did you order?

And to the internal phone mic thing with WiiM DSP.

Using my iPhone 6 as the mic ends up sounding better than my year old Galaxy whatever it is. And my old Paradigm PW-Link seems to do a better job with the built in room correction then the WiiM using the same 2 phones.

The room correction can be hit or miss for me. As the updates from WiiM come out I would try to improve the room correction with those updates. Sometimes it ends up sounding worse. After a while I just gave up because doing the actual room correction was a pain. Shutting of the central air. Having the wife be quiet. Waiting for my noisy fridge to stop it's cooling cycle. I also have to mention that the updates were outpacing the room correction instructions. The RC results ended up being close to my one Graphic EQ setting so I just go with that.

Honestly, I am hesitant to say. I'm becoming tired of the negative feedback loop that has become the norm here. As soon as I mention what I bought, the fault-finders will start doing their thing.

I will say that the mic I ordered was less than $60. Even this much info will probably quickly evoke "don't expect it to be any good" commentary.

How are you people hooking up an external mike to your app? Best I can tell, the Wiim PC app does not have equalization or room correction. You need to use the Wiim app on a phone. My "good" microphones are all analog out...My Iphone has no analog inputs.

For this type of thing, the mic doesn't really need to be anything special. Even cheap condenser mic capsules will cover the audible range. What you pay for is the calibration. I don't see why it would be an issue.

You can PM if you want, not that big of a deal

Thanks for the heads up on the USB mics. I'm not too experienced with what can be plugged into an iphone,
But do have acoustic measurement experience.
Most would be shocked if they saw how bad a "flat" speaker system actually measures in a room with no acoustic treatments. The microphone calibration is the least of your worries, IMO.
Not to say one shouldn't try the room EQ. I think Most phone mics are just fine below 500 Hz, but most are probably better off just using that and a pink noise source to adjust room and speaker placement using a 1/3 octave phone app first. And use the Wiim EQ to smooth things below 500Hz band.
Above 500 Hz, I 'd use your ears to adjust things to your liking, again working with speaker toe in / position from back and side walls and eliminating 1st reflections from walls, ceiling, and floor to listening position with treatments. You can get more detailed, sure, there are PC programs to do that, like Room EQ Wizard. DIY microphones

Below my view of this thread, in "Similar Threads" is a link to one about the "MUZO Cobblestone Multi-Zone Player". @SteveAndBell sacrificed one of his units and in the photo we can see "WiiMu":

Any relation? If so, WiiM have come a long way in 10 years.
