Depends on if you are a hoarder? I have 4 systems, Home Office & personal play system, HT-LR system, Shop system and away office system. I'm just trying to upgrade bits and pieces of each. Once I have them as good as a I care about or can afford, the rest goes with the exception of a few classic pieces. Wife not a factor on most of these - just me and I currently have too much stuff/spares/swap-ins by about 50%. Some already on the 'Bay

Honestly, I would have a hard time going beyond putting a system in the rooms I'm usually in, assuming money's no object. I just don't like hoarding things that aren't getting used. I could see owning pairs of different kinds of speakers, like nice standmounts, or electrostats, or horns...or having a Rega and Garrard TT as they're examples of different designs.

Paying for extra storage long-term just rubs me the wrong way.

Time, space, money, etc, etc. It's nice to have some things but I don't care to have racks and racks of stuff just sitting for no more reason than to rotate once in awhile. Maybe some can. I can't.

If I wasn't married I doubt I would even have a house. I would most likely be renting somewhere. As to this hobby without my wife introducing me to a Quality Stereo system I would no doubt still be happy with my Pioneer SK-21 Boom box.

She came with a real nice 1974 Pioneer SX-3000 receiver (Military sale only version of the SX-626) a decent Onkyo turntable and a pair of Sonic 3 way speakers. Granted it took another 22 years before I took it up as a hobby but if not fo her I'd still be Street racing and covered in Grease no doubt.

And if I lost her now I'd be lucky to get out of bed.

Mine is very excepting of my hobby, especially since I tend to give away as much as I take in. While I used to be a bit of a hoarder, I tend to keep stuff I only deem classics or has a special meaning to me.

Sometimes you just have to know when enough is enough. I've had 2 wives and neither had much effect on my obsession. I removed an internal wall in my house turning a separate living and dining room into one listening room.
I've got 4 large ESL's, two 6Ft tall 12" dia subs, mono tube amps in front, everything bi-amped, 3K+LP's, 1K+CD's plus all the other necessary stuff. I won't mention all the other gear or the multiple computers. I've pretty much stopped. I'm not a collector of gear. I use all my stuff daily. The idea of storage has never occured to me. As I said I don't collect gear. I collect music. Besides, if I stored anything I couldn't look at it anymore. All in all I think I've got enough.

The only real difference if I were spouseless would be that I'd have the main system in the livingroom. Hoarding isn't really front and centre for me, though I tend to end up with a few more pieces than I need in the process of upgrading. At the moment I have more systems than necessary, but when house renos get completed they'll all have proper homes..... then they'll probably get upgraded over time. Hey, the hunt is part of the fun, right?

As if a wife is a problem? I think in most cases a voice of reason chimes in where there is none and if thats your wife and she is an obstacle then you really need to re-think either your passion for audio or your partner because I promise you one of the two is out of whack. There are ofcourse exceptions and I am lucky to have Liz's understanding and awesome friends that help me out in huge ways to enjoy all of this.

No wife here but I try (TRY) to allow price and space dictate my purchases. When I see that I'm getting a little crazy and spending more than I should, I back away and take stock of what I have. I was raised in a poor household and have always been a smart shopper anyway, and that still applies today... only difference is I might wind up buying more good buys that I would if I were married.

I have only one system in the liveing room,no extra stuff but tubes here at the house.
I have a Sansui TU 517 with handles,a pair of Sound labs and some Yamaha towers and an XM reciver on consinment so none of that counts because its for sale right?
Set limits and stick to um.

I've often wondered how to do that. It has been a dream of mine also.

Having separate systems spread throughout the house, all playing different material, would drive me nuts. I regularly have to crank my main system so I can hear it as I move through the house working on different projects. It is seriously lacking.

Although the wife doesn't limit me, she is the voice of reason. She is fairly understanding when I make my case for a piece of gear that I must have.

It would be the largest McIntosh stereo tube amp ever made with the Mac Pre and probably many many speaker systems (to roll) to give the sound I wanted to occupy the entire living room. No TV. I'm vey happy with my present TT.

I'm not a collector or hoarder. About the only limiting factor for me is money and priorities. Being as I'm going to be a HS teacher when I finish my degree, I don't think those limitations will be changing anytime soon, but I'll be damned if I don't keep squirrling away and moving up the ladder.
