That is a weird one, but not that bad. Some of the other tracks are kinda interesting
Just need a little help in getting your head tuned up before you jump into this one! It wakes folks up at a party after a lull
Worst album I paid for was/is Jackson Brown For Everyman. It has nice work as far as writing and JB has a couple of hits off of it, but this copy sounds like its under water -- worst mastering or mixing job I have ever heard (and I used to be in the business!). Hocus Pocus is mastered 200% better or the pressing line was way off that day or something ???

No one thing really, it's just that after Children of the Sun I was expecting so much more. Thorpe has one of the greatest pure rock voices ever, and EOEG was just kind of... lame.
I can see what he was shooting for, a semi-thematic rock opera to follow up COTS, but after repeated spins I found it lacking. I still own a copy (somewhere) but I can't remember the last time it was on the TT.
Y'know, one man's least Fave tune is another man's... (fill in the blank). When I was in High School my Junior year, one of my classmates (a chap by the name of Gordy) had this killer little system (Forget the Amp, but it was a Dual TT and a pair of the Smaller Advents). Dude, we'd listen to Steely Dan (Countdown to Ecstasy) and... Focus. I even went out and bought the dang thing myself, and darn it if "Hocus Pocus" wasn't the only memorable track on it.

That cut, as well as "Yoga is as Yoga Does" was included on the *great* (insert sarcasm here) bootleg, "Elvis' Greatest Sh*ts." I Luv the Elvisisms he inserts in the song... "And when those cows got out of line, Hamburger, medium rare" :lmao::lmao::lmao:

It does and it goes for a couple hundred dollars as long as its not a reissue. It was recorded in the Beach Boys studio before the murders and its sale helped pay for his defense.

Some lightspeed fretwork on Hocus Pocus. I never heard any of the other songs. Are they really that bad?

Ugh some of the horrors...Countdown Mix Masters, Re-recorded songs by one or more of the original artists or groups...what else. Forgot to add I also didn't like "Rock Of The Westies"....what the heck was Elton thinking with "Dan Dare (Pilot of The Future)" or "I Feel Like A Bullet In The Gun Of Robert Ford" and "Billy Bones and The White Bird"...ewwww...That was another wasted $5.00 for me...

OK, maybe I need to revisit the charms of Focus, and the Moving Waves album. I shall play it tonight and dutifully report.
The really bizzare thing is that my sister has given me her copy as well, so I actually may be the only person on earth with 2 copies of this thing! If I decide its worthwhile, I wil offer the extra copy to the highest bidder....

My biggest shock was when I took home and played a copy of White Lady by Badger.
It had none of the energy and freewheeling jams that characterized "One Live Badger" and takes the notion of a sophomore slump to new depths. Tepid, boring dreck is a kind description.

Frank's 3-LP greatest hits package "Trilogy" with the free-association track "The Future" is pretty freakin' awful. Or wonderful, from the so-bad-it's-good POV.
Another awesome album I just got: Billy Joel's pre-solo band Atilla. It's bad. Real bad. But I love it. He puts his organ through a gain or distortion pedal or something and plays overly complex melodies while his buddy bashes on a drum set. He sings, sometimes. Classic.

I have the single of "Hocus Pocus", which I like okay. But their follow-up single "Sylvia" is very good.
Back when I worked at K-105 it wasn't uncommon for start-up labels to bombard you with product. One such label was Private Stock which sent us several copies of the first Blondie album, Link Wray & Robert Gordon and (here it comes) David Soul of Starsky & Hutch fame. Somehow, someway, David Soul managed to eek out the hit, "Don't Give Up On Us Baby" from said album. The best I can offer about it is to

Wow, can I second that! Loved everything about One Live Badger, including the Roger Dean cover. Then came White Lady and WTF!? I can see why there was no 3rd LP. However, I think it's time to put One Live Badger in the 'ol CD player.

Back in college, at our pretend carrier current campus AM radio station "WCPR", we'd get tons of new releases on 45 RPM singles, and LPs too. About 98% of them never made the charts (get above #41). We'd take a stack of these about once a week and plow thru them. Put a record on the TT, and drop the needle in the middle of the record. If it didn't grab us in ten or so seconds, it went into the "reject but save" pile. Our ability to pick out the future hits was only slightly better than random chance. Thus the save in "reject but save". After a while, we'd end up with a huge pile of dud records, and there was this cliff in back of the college, and we'd play frisbee. And also there was dead space behind the walls of the station studio, and some of the duds got tossed behind there. Oh, I'm sure that the place has been remodeled since 1973, so it's unlikely that they are still there....
As for bad record purchases, I found out why some LPs were in the "cut-out bin). Back in around 1972 those went for $2, and I bought an Iron Butterfly album "Metamorhhsis" IIRC. It did suck... I had their "In a Gadda Di Vida" album and loved it, so...
