Yamaha CR-1000 help needed

i find tape monitor switches to be the worst ones because they rarely get used and when they do get used the crud inside goes everywhere . try working it slowly with music playing and see if it changes anything .
If those can be the fault fo my problem I can disassemble them and clean. But just working them does nothing to the solution.

TAPE MONITOR switch or TONE CONTROL AMP or FILTER AMP would be the next areas down stream.

Plz confirm that the red/pink and white wires you measured were in a white plastic wrap. Looks like you measured
wires in blue wrap.
I have ones in white and ones in orange. I did the orange ones.

On mode board measure resistance between red wire in orange wrap
and red wire in white wrap. Repeat for white wire in orange wrap
and white wire in white wrap. Switches in normal listening positions.

OK.
In left channel AUX 1 - Both white wires measure 0,991 K ohm
In R Channel AUX 1 - Boht red wires measure 1,001 K Ohm

Between the two wires White-white and red-red both measure 0,3 ohm

FYI uses a shitload of tantalum coupling capacitors.
You say that the tantalum capacitors in Tone and filter amp suck? Maybe I should measure them. In case of changing them what capacitors should I changed them for? Can I use eletrolitic instead to change them?

Older tantalums generally suck , no matter where there used in audio gear. There used a lot throughout the CR-1000. Including the EQ amplifier.

Mode switches in normal positions looks ok.
Possibly a problem with the right channel since it's both louder and distorted, left channel is clear though lower volume.
Volume or balance wiper? Symptoms (MONO, REV switch normalizes) appear inconsistent

What do you mean by balance wiper?
Sorry its not in MONO that sound equalizes but in R. (both channels through R mode SW channel)
In reverse, the problem changes. Right channel gets lower instead of Left..

Changed capacitors that had in stock and switched the ones that didn't have from L to R and R to L and the same persists. Also switched transistors from Tone amp that were equal and no fix.

OK, making a little more sense. So problem is before the mode switches.
As earlier said, an oscilloscope is probably needed, even a toy, eg 224307829954 on ebay.
