Agreed - if a component is to get a spot in my front room, it's got to look great, both in terms of design and condition. For the component that meets those requirements - as well as sounding good - I am willing to pay a strong market price. If not, I have no interest - regardless of price.

As for looks and sound, why not have it all. IMO, the CR-3020 looks better than any of the black faced 80's Yamaha separates.

If I follow your standards closely, my 16.5's do not make the cut. IMO, sound trumps looks!!

The thing about the CR-3020 that I still recall is just how effortless it sounded, if I had the money and the room (have to take off the glass doors to get the CR-2020 in place as it is) I would go for it.

i agree with arrow-68. for less money you could purchase an entire spec setup including a tuner for $1000. there's one on AK right now.

Great point. I am sure most will also find the Pioneer spec line to have the looks they want.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a CR-3020 but $1500 is a lot of money. If I could only have one piece of equipment, a receiver would be the way to go and it would come down to a SX-1250 or a CR-3020.

I see that plenty of AK members have gotten CR-3020s for reasonable amounts so I'll bide my time. I'd rather wait for the right opportunity. I don't want it so badly that I'm going to bend over a barrel with my pants down.

It's only worth that amount to that buyer from that seller on that day. The new owner may try to sell it tomorrow and find they have a hard time getting half as much. I think sump pump's point is that a single sale does make an item 'worth' that much for all further sales (but I think it sure does help raise the bar!). Lets not get out of hand in all this. :thmbsp:

That's all I was saying :tresbon: - this same theory can apply to audio gear or anything else for that matter - a car, a house, major league baseball players, etc.

If you are a COLLECTOR, and speculate it's value or your life will improve immensely as a result of this purchase, then go for it :yes: (I am not collector, I just have a lot of audio stuff I try to regularily use)

on a side note - I do know that I can find better sound to my ears for MY $1,500.00 - AND I am a Yammie fan and would love a 3020 in my audio bullpen - just I will not be having one for $1,500.00 dollars

I felt for it! Here in Europe I paid nearly half of this 'BIN price' and -trust me- it's worth every penny. The sound and the looks are my cup of tea!
So, make the seller 'an offer he can't refuse...'.
