Big dollars for a Yamaha CR-3020

a bit too high....i always wonder why people start with such a high opening price...just put a reserve on it and start low...I'm never inclined to bid on anything with a high starting price....I would think that puts most people off of even bothering to bid....

Yes, that's the first CR-3020 I've seen on E/B. Have to wonder what makes this particular receiver so heavy? I am listening to the Pioneer SX-1250 as I type, and this is a 65lb. unit. So what accounts for another 25lbs. inside the CR-3020? Dual power supplies perhaps, IDK.
Can only imagine how clean and loud this must go. My CR-1020 is for whatever the reason my best sounding receiver. That's in the company of the Pioneer SX-1250, and the Sansui G-8000, all totally restored and adjusted.
Wish I had a couple of grand to throw at this CR-3020.
Seriously, how loud can one play it, especially with efficient loudspeakers?

As you can see in the photo there are two massive heatsinks, the power transformer alone weighs 22 pounds. There is a lot of steel to the chassis and not in the photo are the steel shields over the boards along the front and over the tuner section on the left.

I understand an unrealisticially high starting price for a rare and special item on e-Bay. This way, there only has to be one yahoo out there willing to pay so much, whereas when starting low, there must be at least two yahoos to get that high.
What I can't comprehend as readily, is an unreal starting price, over and over for a year or more. Of course there are new people on e-Bay every week, so even that isn't as insane as it first seems.

He should have provided better photos, frex the case is veneered with Macassar Ebony - you need a second mortgage to buy that stuff. replacing the two burned out meter lights is not rocket science. Plus it only weighs 85 pounds not 90.

If I had the cash and it was in better condition, I don't think I would have that much problem with his original pricing strategy since he could have relisted if it didn't sell - but the addition of ONE TIME ONLY SALE - smacks of hard sell and I just as soon rather not see it again.

I have put my 2040 up against some highly hyped units and I've always thought it was quite musical sounding

Exactly. Very unprofessional. If you think you've got something worth that much, you get it fixed up first, especially if they're minor problems, and take good photos.
Also, all the "one time only deal" crap just smells of greasy sleazy sales tactics. I can't stand people like this and avoid them like the plague.
I wouldn't bother with a CR-3020 anyway. The CR-2020 is powerful enough and much more affordable.

Not head and shoulders, no, but it is better. It gets into the law of diminishing returns. When I added the 3020 to take the place of the 2040, the 2040 went upstairs to replace the CR-1000 as I will never part with it.
