Every vintage Yamaha piece I've owned has impressed me greatly! I'd say this could be a great unit for the right price.

Yeah, this isn't one of the "collectible" yamaha units. It will still sound great, but just doesn't bring in big coin. I'd say $60-$80... maybe $100, if you live in an area that just doesn't have a lot to choose from.
 
ok i have a guy that has a r 1000 that is missing a knob and the cover is beat up and bent volume knob,,he wants $70 but i asked him if he could do $50 with shipping that sound ok i think it would be a good project piece,
 
its down to a jvc rs77 and the yamahas i might be able to afford both if my offers are accepted.they seem to be from round the same era probably not necessarily vintage put maybe still golden age
 
really dezmond,i think you are the first person to say they did not like there yamaha,what speeakers you use with it
 
the r 1000 i might pass on could have more problems waiting to appear, i can do some refurb but electrical not at all
 
ahhh my original assumption comes back to haunt me. i did wonder why so many yamaha's were on the disable list.
 
Yes, I have a dual amp input speaker switch and this was a/b tested against a few different amps. Maybe the one I had needed a recap, definitely not very clean on the mids and highs. I paid $30 for it .

My yamaha pieces (4 of them) worked well. My 960 does have a bug with the tone controls, but I still used it all night and day with the tone set neutral. And, as with most vintage gear, my 640 had some bulbs burned out. I don't think yamaha is any more unreliable than other brands, and their sound is very neutral and accurate.
 
i know gladiator, but yamaha seems to have more than others i have been looking at.
hey can some one tell me sony i havent heard much,from what i see and have had seems ok ,,,thoughts
 
going through sony stuff at the moment they have some nice stuff mostly from the 90's the ES stuff looks good and sony is somewhat undervalued at the moment
