I was thinking the same, except using the Tioga Pass to leave Yosemite and go to Tahoe. Unfortunately the Tioga Pass isn't always open in May due to snow conditions.

If you take the I-15, you can easily see the best of what Zion has to offer in a brief side trip by visiting Kolob Canyon. Its literally just barely off the I-15, and is a scenic loop road. In under an hour, you've seen it, and you're back on the main highway heading north.
Kolob canyon is maybe 45 minutes north of St. George and the Utah border.

I'll suggest that you spend as much time in Yellowstone as you can. In a trip of few days, you'll just barely be able to see the most popular of the tourist sights.
I lived in West Yellowstone for a late spring, summer, fall, and part of a winter before I decided to move to the relative, comparative, "banana belt" climate of central Utah (Provo); this was a period of about 8 months in W. Yellowstone. In that time, I explored and fished every day, and can barely say that I got to know the park. Its a massive place, and difficult to take in a short period.
I've also made the drive from Yellowstone (W. Yellowstone) to L.A. in a day, numerous times. Its a grind of a drive, and you'll feel completely strung out and worn out for the effort.

Omri, as you can see there's a ton of options of what to see in the Western USA. Memorial Day weekend is NOT the time to see them though. To See and enjoy the West the most, shoot for before Memorial Day or after Labor Day.
If there was any way you can come to the States twice, it would be worth doing that vs planning to do much of this over the Memorial Day weekend. I was in Sequoia,Kings Canyon & Yosemite last Memorial day and it was a zoo. Grand Canyon is packed Memorial Day. Zion,Bryce and Arches are crowded, but not as jammed as the many California locations or the Grand Canyon

i did the hoover dam tour many yrs ago and had a tour guide that was like the 1 in national lampoons vegas vacation "welcome to the hoover dam this is your dam dam tour"--lolz
aint been back since that new road opened and they closed the one on the dam-and lake mead was awsome to rent wave runners on

Speaking/writing as a native flatlander, it might be good to remember it take a couple days to acclimate to those elevations...
The highest elevation in Israel, as I understand it, is ~ 4K Ft.
If you get off the plane in the US and try to hike @ 12K Ft. w/ a backpack you might have some issues.
Might not have any issues at all, but it's probably good to keep that in the back of your mind..

my fave time of year there, is end of June, mtn melt/runoff, streams and rivers rushing/crashing over the rocks and usually before any fire restrictions kickin' in account dry summer etc.. we were on fire this past summer with over 700 thousand acres burned..

I'd recommend driving up the Coast Highway through San Francisco, over to Lake Tahoe, down to Yosemite and making your way toward Las Vegas head further on down to the Grand Canyon, perhaps foregoing the concert[
that be very nice too.. :thmbsp:
i'd like that one on a motorcycle.
