I was in New York a few days ago and stopped in at Bleeker Street Records. They have the largest selection of new vinyl I've ever seen.
I got a rock steady collection from Duke Reid's Tresure Isle label (recordings made in the 60's in the studio he opened upstairs from his Treasure Isle Liquor Store.)
I also got Mambo Con Conga Is Mozambique by Eddie Palmeri.

new, sealed, about $11 ea.

Since last week:
I picked up all of these guys in the past week except for the Units Digital Stimulation LP in the top row. I've had that album for a few months, but I decided to include it in this photo because the LP beside it is their limited edition release of rarities and early tracks on white vinyl.
If you've never heard of the Units, they were active in Southern California in the late seventies and contemporaries of DEVO. I wouldn't call their sound derivitive because at that time Devo was was just rising to prominence. What made them unique was they were anti-guitar, using only mics, synths, and drums.
The success of the Units was derailed by signing onto Epic. Too much fiddling with their signature style in an effort to go mainstream lead to the breakup of the band. Finding actual copies of their early stuff is difficult because they were released in small numbers (less than 500) and places like Generation Records in NYC released a boatload of bootleg copies into the market. :thumbsdn: I am fortunate enough to own original copies of their LP and first EP.

Haha. I sort of spent the money on upgrading my system instead--"Quest 20" stylus and NAD 3020 amp. I'll pick it up at some point though. Probably the 120g mono version.

It is so easy to spend the money eh? I'm flat broke at present very sad even selling some albums:tears: on www.trademe.co.nz under title 17 classic rock albums check it that out and you'll understand how bad things really are and then I go and bid on a Zappa album for $35 couldn't resist it, probably get outbid anyway.
Daza:tears: I borrowed too much to go and see ACDC but totally worth it.

allmusic.com says this "long out of print" LP is "well worth searching for". Can't wait to clean and play, but SWMBO sez we're going out... :sigh:
Bill Evans You Must Believe In Spring (1977)

Sarah Vaughan Gershwin Live! (1982)
Almost left this one behind, because it featured Michael Tilson Thomas and symphony, but for 99 cents, I figured what the heck. Should have trusted my instincts.
allmusic.com: "as a matter of taste, the vocal acrobatics here -- aided and abetted by Tilson Thomas' loving conducting of Marty Paich's ultra-plush charts -- often stretch Gershwin's tunes grotesquely out of shape." hmmmm....

Marie-Claire Alain - Bach Art of the Fugue complete set. I have a hunch this could be a gem, but I could be wrong.
A buncha Time-Life "great men of music" box sets. I got these more for the cute boxes and color biography booklets, if any of the recordings are good that will just be a bonus. The vinyl is rather thin/flimsy. Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Bach, Berlioz, Brahms.
Kate Bush - The Dreaming.
Tchaikovsky Symphonies 4,5,6 box set. Montieux Boston.

One of the land down under's greatest exports, so it was probably worth it. After all, Angus Young probably has only so many floor-spins left...
