In fact I once visited that place in Norway - was showed around the collection and it was breathtaking (2004 I think). As all can see - quite impressing :jawdrop:

In the meanwhile it looks like the JBL D66000's and the new McIntosh stuff is added since. And the Japanese Marantz Monoblocks behind the McIntosh stuff aswell. Before that there was some Nagra 845 tube amps - I remember....

I guess that some of us (some "geeks" at least) - have a large stock of electronic devices / piles of "garbage" and everything in the attics, sheds - hobby rooms - that we actually not have seen for the last 10 years or more - waiting for somebody to come and help to clean up

At least I have been some places, where I did not know where to begin and where to stop....but you can say, that that also is too much - you might be right. But at least you can say, that this guy went "all in" because he could - no harm done there IMO.

The only thing that worries me, is, that most of that marvellous gear probably isn't in service and that could be harmfull to it - I guess that most gear is better off being used from time to time.

The goal, at least from my personal point of view, is the High Fidelity reproduction of MUSIC.
Or, more simply put... the MUSIC.
As you also observed, I don't believe much of that vast collection was even hooked up, beyond the McIntosh room, that is. No music was being reproduced.
Seems a waste to me.
It's much like a kid walking by the candy store, seeing the assortment of SNICKERS, Peanut M&Ms, and Hershey's Milk Chocolate, with no money in his pocket... Ouch!!!
Museums can be a source of interest and learning; but a violin without a player doesn't get you much, does it?
Someone could be playing all that equipment right now if some rich guy hadn't stashed it away in his personal museum.

I don't believe anything I saw in that huge collection would best your main system, with the 500, 7 or 7T, 10B and custom built DAC with the Ohm Fs.
You only have to go down stairs to your personal listening room.

That is one item I have owned that I wish I had back! The Nak Dragon CT table with a Monster Alpha One MC installed. Heavenly!

I think that discussion is running in several paralleled forums about precious cars - vintage wines - collectible vintage guitars - amps - organs - violins ...stached away Rembrandts... stamps (who could use a stamp twice BTW)...... briefly, everything collectible of high quality and legacy.

I've read a thousand times about how bad it is when a beautyfull Daphne Blue '61 Stratocaster is kept away in it's case - instead of being played ..never more giggin'....

In collections things rarely are used as intented from the beginning. They mostly are for show and/or investment..(and to be preverved at the same time = saved from the dumpster, that is..)

That kind of discussion will probably never take an end - but is IMO understandable in both camps...
