There's an inherent transparency to the big horns that's hard to describe. The TOTL JBL Consumer horns have that, too, and the big TADs.

Does the 2352 exhibit this? (You are the guy to ask.)
Because it's not mega-priced.
 
Those are smaller than E'Wave, actually, JBL Consumer biradials, H4348. JBL plays them down to 800 Hz, as I recall. $800 a pair unobtanium.

But isn't the "inherent transparency" also where some of the criticism of horns comes in?

Yes. I characterize them as "Transcendent."

Yes, also. Horns sound horny, and those who give a whit have worked diligently to overcome that in these newer designs.

The universal observation among E'Wave builders is that E'Waves do NOT sound like horns; for less than $10 apiece, they beat out virtually any vintage horns in this respect, even the big Altec sectorals.... :yes:
 
I ran them on the individual drivers early on, but I'm embarassed to say, never on a complete system.

Here's D220Ti on E'Waveguide w/LE14A and standard E'Wave XO. Impedance, red, phase, blue:

Minimum impedance is 6.72 Ohms at 125 Hz.

Thanks Zilch, I've been playing with the "Passive xover designer, excel spreedsheet" program.

I edited with notepad a ZMA file named Ideal (Basically 8 ohms) to reflect "to some degree" the
selenium 210 driver then did EQ and L-PAD to see what it looked like, very simular outcome to
your measurements I think.

Just trying to see with gathering enough info and plugging it in can this program be useful for at
least making a protoype xover, then tweaking from there with predicted results actually verified.

Hey, you guys quit talking about the 2384 PT. Zilch, is this PT a scaled up version of the original WG of this project (12" W x 6.5" H, part #338800-001)? If it is close to a scaled up version and not exorbitantly more expensive, I do have access to a pair of JBL 2435 that I can try. Any idea of the cost?

The missing piece is response measurement capability. You can also measure the actual voltage drives with that. :yes:

I don't know what it is, frankly, or what it costs, but will inquire.

If it were PT, I think they would have said so, but I don't see a diffraction slot in there, either, in the pics. We've really got to have them in hand to get an idea of what's up and how they perform.

I'm a little put off by the "enhanced HF for behind the screen" thing, which may imply an exponential flare and beaming.... :dunno:
 
I recently had an opportunity to get a pair of 2360 horns with 2446J compression drivers but I didn't act quickly enough and trusted they were going to be held for me until the 26th. Just as well, a 31x31" biradial horn wouldn't have gone over well with Christie.

the AC2215/95 (middle) reports that it is crossed at 2.2khz while the AM6215/95 (bottom) reports 1.3khz, so not exactly apples to apples. the 2352 horn (top) seems to have a rising response, perhaps that is the "screen effect" that was built in. the AC2215/95 uses the econowave horn. the AM6215/95 uses the PT-H95HF horn, which is 1.5", a little taller, and also available (part# 338781-001 $138)

Anybody have a pair of 1.5mH 18 AWG I Core Inductor's they could spare? PE is out of them and it's keeping from getting my EconoWaves done.
 
they are in the current installed sound lineup. i cleaned up the post.
AM6215/95 uses PT-H95HF, actually. Zilch's favorite 1.5" PT-F95HF is used in VP Series products:
