I believe I've done that: there are measuable differences, but they're arguably not worth the cost of a can of Quiet-Kote. Jean (B&KMan) tells us why mineralized viscoelastomers can't get it, whereas plaster can. Think "stucco."

Nonetheless, since you already have the materials, I encourage you to structure your own experiment and report your findings here. In particular, look to before and after impedance measurements for indications of resonances, as well as A/B comparative listening, i.e., just do one waveguide after measuring both, so you retain a known control for comparison.... :yes:

Dude knows his stuff.

That's his 4343s, I believe they are, in his avatar over there. You're looking at his DIY crossovers for them BEFORE he boxed them in and filled that box with sand to mitigate microphonic and triboelectric effects due to vibration and resonance.

Hahaha. :) Wouldn't have put it such black and white terms as I really enjoyed the CS-99A's as my surround sound fronts. (Read as: noncritical listening) Also, I would have offered "Give it up or Turn it Loose" as the Dick Hyman track. Music wasn't too hot through them when run in a two channel configuration so I didn't mind having a hack at 'em just to see if it was an improvement. It definitely was. I could spend a lot of time with these speakers in their current state.

Initial impression was that I also found myself missing the clarity of the LE14A woofers and the fun exaggerated bass of the L100's 123 woofer. The CS-99A woofer had a little bit of distortion mud to its sound with my Marantz CD63 as its source. Then again I was cranking a Darling 1 and 1/4 watt flea powered amp. I'll try that again with a good known working higher powered amp before passing final judgment.
 
Another thing I forgot to mention was how the CS-99A's have a center screw hole in the back baffle. The mounting brace pushes to the side and with a slight enlargement from a drill, it's perfect for running the woofer leads out.
This way it won't be difficult to make them stock again if I so choose. :thmbsp:

AR2 conversion was a little more invasive but not impossible to reverse.

Off topic question: how different does lossless sound from a 320kbs mp3 rip? I haven't created any lossless files yet. All I know is 320K is worlds better than 128K.

Mine were ripped at 192 unless they are downloads from iTunes. Clearly some sound better than others and I'll be the last one to rip on MP3's. Lossless formats should not be distinguishable from WAV files.

How low can this WG load a driver if we redo the crossover? He really does not have the room at home to have the large WG that Zilch is playing with.

A little off topic here but I got to hear the JBL 4430 at the seller's house yesterday. The sound is really excellent. IMHO...the JBL horn does not seem to have quite the even dispersion of the PT WG but you do get a bit more of the raw energy bite that seems to be lacking (just a little bit) on the EWG with the D220Ti. I can understand now why Zilch uses the 4430 as his reference system.

Boy that's the truth, been held up by that as well. I've been rereading the entire thread and taking notes about various points of interest and noting post numbers as a sort of reference index of sorts. I'll post if it works, may get just as unworkable for the same reason, the sheer size!

That works, if you're generally familiar with the subject matter; more like a table of contents than an index, I did similar for my "Quick and Dirty" thread on LHF.

It took me most of a weekend to put it together, and I may be the only one who ever uses it, but it does allow me to navigate the thread. Well, threads in this instance:

Hey guys, any idea how these would Ewave? They've got a nice big 15"
woofer(I assume the other drivers are crap).

It depends on how well they'll play in the upper midrange, which is a "stretch" for most 15" drivers that can also deliver extended bass.

Generally, the answer is "Not so good," but you won't know without trying it.... :dunno:
 
Poorly would be seriously understated way of putting it. They don't produce much bass below 50-60hz and fall about in the midrange. Those are best for throwing in the back of a truck and use them to tailgate loudly.
