Well I can't remember the name of the company. :D I only worked there for three weeks and then had an opportunity to go sailing to Catalina Island for two weeks and immediately quit. There were some scary dudes working there. I remember one guy was out on bail for murder. No kidding. :yikes: I stayed clear of that gang banger. :yes:
 
Woofer info and "tweaking"

Don't know how many if any will find this info useful or interesting,, :scratch2:..

But I ran the 10" woofers from the ADS L880 through some impedance tests.
(I still plan on testing the smaller ones but this pair was already removed) :)

First is just one woofer:
I would call it a 4ohm woofer, some manufacturers may call it a 6ohm woofer,
ecspecially when stuffed into the system and a coil adding some resistance.

Second is both woofers in paralell with one another:
Definatly lower then I would want to play with.

3rd is both woofers in series with one another:
This is not a bad looking load, although the peak does increase.

4th is both woofers in series with one another and a 45ohm resistor in paralell:
This looks good, like a nice 8ohm considered load and the 45ohm resistor helps
with the peak quite a bit and overall smooths the impedance out some.

5th is both woofers in series with one another and a 45ohm resistor in paralell,
plus a zobel consisting of a 15ohm resistor and 15uf cap:
In this one you can see the effects above, plus the zobel flatening out a rising
impedance as the frequency goes up, (a typical woofer situation).

These are just to show how the impedance reacts in there different configs.:nerd:

And here is an 8" ADS woof from the L570. (can't find 620's here....YET!!)

So I'm going to assume when they say 6ohm nominal and 4ohm minimum that
this is what they are seeing.

And certainly not one to discourage anyone from modding anything they wish
(gosh knows I find nothing sacred) :) but I find the ADS tweeter very capable
and meshes well plus balance with the rest of there speakers and unless it was
dead I'd be hard pressed to scrap it for something else...:D Just sayin.....

If you Zobel that one, it's 4 Ohms all the way.

I don't think there's any tweeter ever did what E'Wave can do.

All those guys were struggling to get the dispersion these waveguides have in spades, with lower frequency capability and constant directivity thrown in as bonuses.... :cool:
 
Hey Zilch and/or Jack, seeing as how you're accepting use of the 6x6 waveguide as an official E-Mini-Wave, how about a linky on Page 1 and/or an entry in the Parts List so that others can do it, too. And just for grins, could you post here the JBL number for ordering purposes. I've got a pair of boxen that might be a fit, just as soon as I get finished with about three other speaker projects, that is...

Here's a photo of some L620's, that baffle is ripe for an eWave. These are on eBay right now in L.A. You could buy these and resell the tweets and have them for free! Not mine etc.

(Glad you did, cuz I was counting up just the cash in tubes and was extreeeeeeemly tempted)
(12 12AX7's (probably fisher labeled Tellies) and 4 7868's) UH HUH!

Come on Kegger, those L620's are plentiful and cheap. I'm not suggesting cutting up some L910's or L980's. :no:

I hear yu Duff, I've got a pair of 570's staring at me now dammit..:scratch2:

No tweets in these ones, personally I like a good sounding dome tweet
and don't feel that a waveguide and compression driver is warrented in
an ineficent speaker like most ADS are, and personally I wouldn't find it
to be an upgrade either, even with all the advanteges it provides....:whip:

Again it comes down to ones thoughts on the subject of matching the
sensitivity and how they feel certain components mesh with each other
then ultimatly the subjective sound of each speaker system as a whole.

I have no problem with someone else doing it, just not sure I would and
I like the speakers as they are and feel they perform rather well to boot.

Again this is not to try an derail anyone from doing it, and I will be extremly
interested if someone does do it plus feel they would probably sound great!
(Just voicing my oppinion on the subject is all)

There are certainly better components out there and better performing then
the ADS speakers, but they are one of the "vintage" types I happen to like. :)
