Alright no passive radiators for my app here.

The ones I have should be larger for driver being used which means really wanting 2
per cabinet, then the tuning, cutting an structural demands placed I will stick to the
ports here and save the passives for a smaller box and smaller drivers then.

Standalone cabinet for Ewave horn/driver??

If this question has already been asked, I apologize.

Has anyone designed a standalone cabinet to house the JBL horn and Selenium driver? Are there specific dimensional ratios that need to be followed? I'm just thinking the horn/driver would like better in a nice wood cabinet instead of just sitting on top of the speaker.

Since my woodworking skills are nearly nil, a prefab solution would be great. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, thats been done by several members here. Go to page one and look at member projects, you will see some. One of the nicer ones buried somewhere in this monster thread is where Zilch used a .5 cu ft PE curved sided cabinet and put the wave guide in it, with the box turned side ways of course. I'm sure there's room for the crossover as well, makes a nice compact unit, looks nice and is easily moved from system to system.:yes:

By the by, what are your "Zilch designed speakers" in your signature?

Go to your local good will/thrift/salvation army an grab a pair of $5.00 small bookshelf
speakers, take out the drivers, and mod um up so the waveguide fits, cheap and easy.

Also, no need to follow any ratios as the enclosure isn't adding anything other than a place to support the horn. The compression driver is closed.

Check out Keggers build. Here used a pair of small speaker cabs just for the horns. Great idea and looks cool too.

I'm asking you to try my Advent highpass on your waveguide and driver to confirm that the comp is correct, independent of the overall attenuation. If it plays flat for you, I'll then go ahead and develop the same compensation with zero attenuation for mating with higher-efficiency woofers.... :thmbsp:

Zilch, here is the Advent highpass on my waveguide and driver. It looks like it gained maybe 1 dB in the high end dropoff above 15 KHz (6 dB drop versus 7 dB), but it also has the bloated mids, as though the compensation capacitor is too large. Maybe that gain over the high SPL version is strictly due to the lower output of the Advent version?

Doesn't look like it holds any promise of yielding a large improvement.

I did that - and came home with a pair of Philips 10 inch 3-ways speakers in 45 lb cabinets veneered on all 6 sides with teak or something - for $20. Woofers need a refoam, but they sound pretty nice with generic replacements in there for now.

So I try again, and pick up some nice Realistic Solo 1 full-range bookshelf speakers, covered in real walnut veneer. Yes, those'll look real nice....get home and the horns are too big for the boxes by only a 1/4". grrr.

So I learned something: grab an LP from the used bin, and if it fits across the back it's wide enough for the horn, and if it is more than half an LP cover tall than it's tall enough too. Or carry a tape measure!

For now I'm going with the horns mounted in an MDF board.

Is it maybe that Jack is using the 210 and Zilch is using the 220 and the 210 doesn't
like that particular waveguide? I'm not sure Jack is even using the 210 just a thought.

I have some D210Ti's, but all these tests are made with D220Ti's. I have three D220Ti's left, and they all duplicate the results shown.

Subjective opinion here.
I used the 6 X 12 waveguide with the 210 in large Advent cabs with the Jensen Advent woofers and the low efficiency JackLab crossover.
The very top end 'sparkle' region sounds low to my ear although the overall balance is good. Adding the foam plugs makes this slightly worse.
Overall, the balance is great but when I compare them to the Linn Isobariks we all hear more extreme treble from the Linns.

It's all "tweakable" for those who care to do so in any final alignment.

Zilch, I always get so darned befuddled every time I try to use the search function on the LH site. Do you know what model JBL used the 8 inch square units in? Lets see how they compensate them, and what sort of response they get. That could be eye opening.

It looks like Parts Express doesn't have the D210Ti in their catalog any longer. Maybe it is now obsolete, which is a shame because it did make the EconoWave quite a bit cheaper to build. I may be able to help someone who is looking to find a pair. PM me for details.
