Those look like Advent 5002s? I think. The ADCs to my ears are very "Advent like". I have this project on my list of things to do. It's a very long list, but I'd like to try it.

A note about the DE10 compression driver: The .250" connector tabs are located on very thin and flimsy plastic extensions of the diaphragm frame. They flex with just a light pressure. Enough pressure to slide the connector on will immediately break the tab off. Installing the male .250" connector on teh tab requires pushing on the back of the tab frame. Rather a significant drawback for a Pro driver.

Thanks for the headsup on the DE10. I wonder about the DE160 that Augerpro over on AVS is using in his 2 way, I may have to aquire one of those to play along with that project. Have the waveguide on the way for that project.:thmbsp:.

While understanding the inherent danger of getting stupid again... here goes. :D

Bauhausler, Zilch, et. al... do you think that the E-wave setup could be made to work with DUAL Advent 10" woofers (masonite ring) PER SPEAKER?

Reason I ask... AudioPeasant is here now. He's got two pairs of Advents. I'm thinking of maybe building a 4 cubic foot tower cabinet, with the E-wave and two woofers per cab. That could be absolute devastation... :D :D :D

There's never any harm in squeezing out a bit more LF extension via "0.5," but I usually apply that where it would otherwise be lacking; that's not the case here.... :dunno:
 
I'm thinking of doing a JBL/THX sort of thing... putting the 10" close together, playing them in parallel, and letting them "narrow the dispersion" in the vertical dimension as you approach the crossover point. Could wind up with something that tracks in dispersion, pretty closely between the two woofers and the E-wave...

This project sounds really interesting. I am going to keep an eye out for a suitable cabinet.

Does the Selenium driver need space behind it to breath? From looking at the specs, the wave guide is 6.25" deep and the driver is 2" deep, so will any cabinet that's deeper than 8.25" work? Thanks.

No, 6.25" including driver, measured from the front of the mounting surface....

Are you talking about a WTW sort of tower deal? That would give you extra sensitivity below 2K and a better level match with the Selenium.
The closest I've been able to get an Advent masonite to a PH612 was 8.5" by back mounting the woofer and overlapping the driver frames. That gives a vertical 'window' of 52 deg, IIRC. Back mounting slightly improves the time alignment as well.
Why not do a 3-way tower with a nice mid from 300 hz to 1600 and the Advent woofer below 300 hz? A 5" mid would be a better center-to-center match for the PH612 than the 11.75" Advent frame. That's kinda the direction I'm stumbling in lately. Even a modest dome mid would work, as the Advent woofer can easily reach high enough to match it.
Not that I know what I'm talking about...
 
L200 Cabinets

Hey,

There is a pair of L200 cabinets available in the Denver market. Would these require a new baffle to eliminate the existing recessed baffle? Would the extensions on the side negatively effect the performance of the waveguide?

Ok im starting another pair and will be using these cabinets http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=196466 Do you guys think I need to remove the vertical strips of wood in front of the grills or can I probably get by leaving them in. Im putting 2235H and B&C DE610s on 338650-001 waveguides in here, they are approx 6.25 CF each, other than bracing which is definitely needed with these relics can any one come up with any other suggestions I might be overlooking or just plain too dumb to think of myself. Thanks

Whatever you do, I'd take care to make it possible to return them to what they are now, as those speakers look pretty special.

They'll be fine. If you look in my Quick and Dirty 4430 thread over on LHF, you'll see that both Jack and I built with them. Go to the "Contents" page first. The recesses are much less of a factor in the performance when using constant directivity waveguides -- they're well outside the pattern.

The Zilchster's favorite 90° x 50° waveguide, I don't believe those narrow strips will affect much, so leave them there, if you like....

Hey, I got one other additional parameter for this woofer:

X-max: 7mm (.27")

Determined from direct dis-assembly and measurement of the parts on a blown unit (I rebuilt the pair with new voice coils, spiders and dustcaps, retaining the original cones and surrounds).

Just in case anyone else wanted to build around this... it's a good one, IMHO, too! I have the rebuilt pair here, I'm planning to E-wave around...

Anyone know how 2235H plays in 6.5 Cu ft?
