Without some to measure, I'd just be guessing.... :dunno:

What is the output level of the woofer you plan to use? With that info, it should be easy enough to come up with values for your crossover.
 
Too small, according to BB6P. It wants 3 cuft, vented, tuned to 28 Hz.

Your boxes are bigger than 1 cuft, no?
 
EWG with LE10A??

Jumping in here dozens of pages after my last appearance. I'm in on the waveguide group buy.
I also bid on a pair of LE10A on That Auction Site. I have yet to pick them up yet and they will need foam so I'm a ways from a complete speaker.
This raises the issue of cabinets, ;loading and crossover for the LE10A/EWG setup. Can anyone point me at some existing work that's been done that's applicable to the LE10A/EWG configuration? I'm sure it's in this thread somewhere but it's impossibly confusing to plow through 700 posts to find it.
Anyone else working with LE10A's and willing to share their findings??

Hi Zilch, I do have bigger boxes, but my daughter asked for a system for her dorm room and I have 1 cf boxes to play with. If I use these woofs in the smaller than 3 cf box, it just won't have as much bass...right? Cheers,.
 
You have hit it right on the head. This project is just stupid good sounding, absolutely wonderful. The bargain aspect of this is what will make you grin like you lost your mind, :banana: YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED! Go for it, it is a simple project with tons of help available if you get stuck for any reason. Ask questions where it doesnt make sense, you will get answers and learn as you go. Search my posts, I ask all kinds of dense questions! And include pics and tell what you think. You will be glad you did.:thmbsp:

I have a really nice set of criterion 4X's....not a bad speaker...but not the best sounding speaker even after re-capping. The cabinets and grillcloth are absolutely beautiful...totally mint. Its a ported enclosure and I have been entertaining tearing out the baffle and using the cabs for a DIY proj....I think this is the project....mostly parts for costs and a simple baffle tear out. What is anyone's take on keeping the horn outside the enclosure and attached via its own mount? Also....is the distance between the horn and the woofer critical?


They have a 12 inch woofer in them with an alnico mag...Not sure if I would use that one but what the hell...put'm together...if they aren't the best....put a proper woofer in there.

Yes, that's correct. 1 cuft is actually the preferred volume for that driver closed box, but it's not very flat, and rolled off (-6 dB) up at 50 Hz. (Black, below)

In 3 cuft vented, it has usable bass down to 30 Hz (-6 dB,) and looks like it would make a most excellent E'Wave system in that alignment. (Red)

The T/S parameters for the Dayton drivers are in the standard database, probably in WinISD, as well, so you can easily confirm these results yourself.

A lot of us are just setting the waveguide on top for starters. Then, you have to decide whether to integrate it into a new baffle and elevate or tilt the works at ear level, or move the woofer close to the top of the box and leave the waveguide separate. You can also put it in its own enclosure. I believe it will fit in one of the PE prefinished cabs mounted horizontally, but that's a "pricey" approach.

Wayne or Skywave can tell you more about the optimum driver spacing, perhaps. I just try to keep them "close...."

Sounds like a plan. Try them as is, then depending on the size of your box, consider the various choices and go from there. Just pop them on top to test it out. :thmbsp:

I looked at the tech docs for the 4313B for cabinet dims. Looks like 1.2 cu ft and I don't know if that's net of the woofer volume and the 800 cu in midrange enclosure. Because it's ported I expected to see a 'double peak' impedance plot but there was only a single peak at 60 Hz. that goes against my understanding of ported systems.

Well, I haven't even got the LE10s or the EWGs yet and already this project is 'on hold'.
I've negotiated for a pair of Linn Isobariks tha twill require a 650 mile drive to collect. I'm psyched about that acquisition but I have to move a bunch of stuff out of the way to make room. The Dahlquist DQ-20i's will be going to member LVB for 'testing' and all the NHTs I just acquired will be stacked up in the narrowest possible pile.
At least I got the Acoustat 1+1s out of here this week. That opens up a little room.

There's a narrow peak at 60 hz, then below that it goes down to 5 Ohms and rises to 9 Ohms at 20 hz but that's way out of the woofer's active band.
 
The lower peak is below 20 Hz, so you don't see it, is all.

Fmin appears to be around 34 Hz, and that would approximate Fb, the box tuning frequency.... :yes:

The LE10H's that I put into an older EV Baronet clone are still playing in the garage, and they are exhilarating. Did you ever go sit in your garage to listen to tunes? I now enjoy doing that. And my garage is a very hard acoustical place. No drapes, carpet, or stuffed furniture. Just cars, walls, and concrete floors. The Baronets figure roughly 1.6 cubic feet, and are tuned to 36 Hz. If you try the LE10A's or H's in roughly that configuration, you will know how good they are. Excellent woofers for an EconoWave system.

Today I also received another order of veneer. Walnut burl. Maybe enough for my first pair of speakers built 45 years ago and the Baronets too. Sure hope so.
