That's quite a good idea, Dennis.

How about Rewave?
That's quite a good idea, Dennis.

Do you have particular suggestions, or is it just the notion that they have some sale prices? I'm getting the itch, although from speaking with Dave at JBL Parts, it may be a while until the waveguides are in. - Pat
The Heresy woofer doesn't play clean at EWave x-o frq.
You'll have to slug something else in there.
Guess u didn't measure at the "shootout."

Today the owner of my first pair of ewaves, the ULAwaves (D210T1/PH612/Utility Large Advent) took them to be compared to a pair of Heresies.
First round knockout, no count needed.
Tomorrow morning I'll get a phone call asking if I can ewave a pair of Heresies. I'd bet on it. I have a pair of Heresy II's here and there's enough baffle space for the PH612. I so relish the thought of taking a saw to the baffles of a pair of those...
Heresy II woofer LP is 800 hz or so. I wasn't at the Shootout, so it was an unbiased decision on their parts. The gut with the Heresies was asking questions about tone controls, EQ, crossover upgrades, etc. but I knew what the problem was...
I've been preusing manufacturer's data sheets linked to the PE product listings and was wondering if anyone had tried the B&C DE180? A little cheaper than the (on sale) DE250, similar specs but not as efficient. Was comparing them to the Selenium D220Ti and noticed that the B&C response curves are plotted on log paper while the Selenium was not. Makes the Selenium look much smoother on paper. An AK seach for DE180 came back blank. Still have a pair of restored Santana II cabs set up with removable front baffles looking for a purpose in life. If they get e-waved they would be my fifth set...Yes, I like them, particularly their smaller size and lighter weight.
With respect to how they sound, they both use the same diaphragm, but from the specs, D2500Ti-Nd is lower distortion. Unless D220Ti has a shorting ring, the Nd magnet material might account for that.
In any case, I'll have to set up a direct A/B comparison before concluding anything with respect to their sonic qualities....![]()
I believe Brandon is using DE160 in his No Quarters. I haven't checked the specs on any of the B&C alternatives to DE250....I've been preusing manufacturer's data sheets linked to the PE product listings and was wondering if anyone had tried the B&C DE180? Only about $60.00 more for a pair
Worth it IMHO![]()
Hey Ross, everyone at the SMAC meeting said "HI". I had Heresy IIs for 12 or so years and can tell you, from my long experience, the woof does not go high enough, OR, OR, OR, low enough to work as a good eWave candidate. However, the cab is a good cab for a better woof and eWave top end. Maybe a JBL LE 14.

Word to the wise- I can recone a Heresy basket (CTS, Eminence or newer) with a different cone, voice coil and dustcap, so that it WILL go high enough. The problem is the straight-sided (pure cone shape) cone... replace that with a slightly lighter-weight "bell shaped" (flared) cone and a felt dustcap... good response up to 1500 Hz. I've got a pair of Heresy woofers here (K22-K that I reconed thus), that I'm going to use in a build sometime...
Bass response is something that might also be addressed, thus. I find that my reconed woofers seem to work well in a vented enclosure of about the same size as the original Heresy (2.-something cubic feet, tuned to around 27 Hz or so). Good bass into the mid-30s, at least... one should be able to put a vent into the Heresy cabinet (maybe on the back wall?) and get some useful extension, with a carefully reconed woofer...
Regards,
Gordon.
