Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

Some of that pro stuff would fit. Just have to look around. Also, you could find the big pro stuff and sell it for smaller componants. Is that an RV 4 or 6 in your avitar??? I have many hours stuck in the cockpit on my back bucking rivets in a 6.

Zilch I'd love to hear what you have to say on the Dayton DC-250, if I read your post right and you'll be measuring them soon with the QSC/DE250.

I just put a zobel on my DC-250s and am gettign ready to haul them to a friend to remeasure.

I am working with some suggestions from NHT's Jack Hidley and "The one who knows." I have been able to move the forward axis down a bit by making the eWave highpass third-order per Wayne's design, and am next working on the lowpass. The Rane tech note suggests that a classic symmetrical third-order Butterworth's -15° downward tilt may be useful, Fig. 1a:

"Cancellation Axis" = forward null, for those following what's going on with these design adjustments; the view is from the side, showing the vertical pattern.... :thmbsp:

I'm using Wayne's x-o. Currently trying to make space to do a halfway decent job in the verticals for kicks and to pretend I'm contributing.

That's real interesting about the 3rd order Butterworth's downward tilt. You must be thinking that would tilt-up to on-axis because of the QSC depth. I like your style.
 
Rough math says 15 degrees at 1600 hz is only 1/3", meaning tha tdisplacing the acoustic center of the upper driver back about 8mm will tilt figure 1a back to horizontal.
 
Help me, now, tan 15° = 0.2679 = opp/adj, with adj being the 10.5" C/C distance, so opp = 2.8135", no? Requiring 120° of phase shift @ 1.6 kHz? :dunno:

I'm not suggesting we need to be dead-on normal to the baffle, but we appear to be shootin' the sky presently, pending your measurements.... :dunno:

Stopped by Bauhausler's today and saw another set of big Advent eWaves in the works. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

Your trig checks. Not that I pretend to understand the rest of the process...
 
The rest:

1ms/1.6 Hz/ms = 0.625ms/Hz (360°)

Speed out sound = 13.56 in/ms

0.625 x 13.56 = 8.475"/Hz @ 1.6 kHz

2.8135"/8.475" = 0.3320 Hz @ 1.6 kHz

0.3320 x 360° = 119.52° phase.

Well the math looks close enuf. But as I have not been following this thread lately, all I know is my forward lobe is starting to hurt reading it and trying to catch up :) Back to listening...

Yes. I'm still at 1.7 kHz using Jack's filter component values, and want to try to move that down more, and get rid of the Zobel tucked in the back there. Still more tricks in the bag.

I'm certainly finding that yanking the forward lobe around isn't as trivially easy as supposed, assuming that's actually what I'm measuring here.... :dunno:

I am tired tonight so I just popped the tweet and wired in the EWG. The bump in the vocals is noticable, but other than that, they sound great....I mean GREAT. I am still using the stock xover and the EWG is too high and back too far, but WOW, they sound great. ::

Spied a pair of SB-5000a (with fried tweets) at a local 'recycle shop'...

Hi Spec. right after I found those, I found a pair of ESS AMT 1c. I bought them just for the big Heil tweeters for my main system, then looked at the bass cabs and thought, what the hell and made eWaves out of them. At that point I put the 4500 in a closet and just now remembered I had them. I have a TT and three amps in the cue before I get to the 4500 eWave project. I HAVE to get some of these half done project off the bench. The 5000 have MUCH better woofers and think they would make great eWaves. both of them have great bass that crosses much higher than the eWave project calls for. Good luck.
