Make Magazine has announced a Maker Faire Detroit, to be held at The Henry Ford 7/30 - 8/1 2010.
This is a big convention for people interested in DIY of all kinds.
I have an article in the current issue of Make Magazine on Econowave speakers. I'm planning to attend the Maker Faire Detroit as an exhibitor and would partner with other AK-ers who have developed and built audio gear. An all-DIY audio demo!

Perfect! Count me in. This will give me an excuse to finish it. We spent the day at Dan Csomos' house yesterday and one of the things we did was glue up the chassis for my 6SL7/2A3/GM70 amp. The top plates will be laser cut in a week or so. I am also finishing the chassis for my 6LU8 amp this Tuesday night. Also, do you know the pods at the top of hang-over city street lights that hold the big ass bulbs? I just scored two of those and am thinking about making a pair of full range driver speakers out of them. That might be cool.

It's 6 months off, but I think I'd like to build another scratch pair of Classic Ewaves with all current production parts to exhibit. That's a more relevant application for most non-audio hoarders than a vintage conversion is. The obvious choice for this is an all-PE set with trap cabs, PH612/D220Ti, whatever DC woofer works best and Zlab XO boards. The baffle of one could be secured with wing nuts so it could be removed to expose the inner bits with the parts labeled like a science project. Hand out flyers with a BOM and links for the build process.
It just occurred to me that PE might be persuaded to participate in some manner. Have to contact them on that.

DonPrice, I'm not sure, but I think the driver you are getting ready to consider is the same driver Augerpro was using with "No Quarter" If I am recalling correctly....

As I read your post, I had the same thought as your last line. I've gotten over 15K worth of custom Harley after market parts because the bike was going to go on tour after it was built. Yes, I have the 6LU8 tubes..thanks. The blue phono pre is up and running and I can bring that with the marble TT. I like the idea of wing nuts to expose the guts of the eWave and I'm sure the Z man would send you completed xovers (hint hint Z)

I have bare boards and components on hand. I think a static display would be more appropriate than demonstrating how to solder through hole components over and over for 2 days. I certainly have better things to do than huff flux fumes nonstop. Though this cranky Accuphase integrated amp on my bench seems to want me to keep the soldering iron hot. Frikkin 2-hour interval intermittent signal noise.
Might be a good idea to collect and print pix of scratch built and converted ewaves, display them and explain the range of applications. I'd like people to see the wide range of different things you can do with this system. We have our own ideas about what's appropriate but expose enough strangers and all kinds of new concepts come out.
I believe Augerpro is using the 3012HO. I am a big fan of both the 3015 and 3012HO, and will follow both builds closely...

I think the Dayton DC250 sounds pretty good, however I am running 18db of attenuation as per the charts on some previous page and the horn is still a bit hot.
I think I'm going to try a more efficient woofer, eying the Pioneer 10" paper woofers on PE that are 94db and go down to around 35hz.

House rocking is definitely in order. FYI, the 50th annual Ann Arbor Art fair is the previous weekend. I'm sure you know what that's about.
I have yet to get details from the organizers on what kind of exhibit/display/appalling spectacle we can put together but I'm sure that will be coming. I'd like to get examples or at least photos/descriptions of a variety of AK-ers' DIY audio stuff to show, with an emphasis on projects like the $150 Compactron amp, solid state chip amps and Trap Ewaves that can be built from all new retail parts.
QSC shipped my waveguides on Friday, so I should be up and running those with DE250s by the end of the week. For convenience/laziness I plan to initially run them on top of sideways ULA cabs and woofers to get a feel for how they sound.

This pair of E'Waves will be for my nephews oldest son, who will start college soon. Woofer will be the 10 inch Pioneer woofer from HPM 60's, with the 8 inch square JBL waveguide and Selenium D210Ti's.
Skywave-rider kindly tested a woofer for me, and gave me the T/S parameters. He is one of the "Good Guys."

They sound very good in the PE trapezoidal cabs; I'm about to cut in some ports. Yes, the efficiency is low, but the bass is delicious in this size (1.6 CF) box.
DC250 = Green, DC300 = Vio, both tuned to 30 Hz using 2 x 2" x 10" vents:
VERY nice form factor, Jack. I've used the 8" in Large Advents and KLH-6 successfully, as well. If it works for you, let's discuss making them an "Official" eWaveguide. :thmbsp:
Haven't tried it yet, but I think the D2500Ti-Nd is a natural mate for those. They're also in your HT, no?
