Peerless from PE or Madisound. Appears similar in spec to JBL 123A-1.
 
Hi, I've been reading this thread for weeks now trying to absorb some of the information here, I really like this project and I want to say thanks to all the guys who have put so much effort into this so we can all have fun together :thmbsp:

I've been on a quest for an 8 ohm high efficiency DIY speaker that didn't cost a mint to build and thats what led me here. I'm thinking that an Econowave should be a lot of fun with my DIY Aleph-J and Simple SE amps.

I have a pair of the Pyle PH612 horns and will be getting the Selenium CD's and crossover parts ordered up soon but I'm still undecided on my woofer choice and cabinet size.

The woofer that I'm most interested in right now is the Eminence Beta 12A II, I like the efficiency and the price. Would that be a good choice? Would it work Ok in a PE trap cab?

From the suggested cabinet designs (Project Ideas tab at PE), it certainly appears to work in the Trap cab, either vented or sealed. Either way, you'll need a sub; not an issue for home theater.... :thmbsp:

Thanks Zilch, I'm thinking of using the Trap cabs to start with, since they are so easy to build and seem really inexpensive for what you get.

I might build some much bigger floor standing cabs later, like 3-4 cf, but they would be really heavy and my living arrangements are somewhat temporary right now and I'll probably be moving within a year or so. A pair of 12" or 15" sealed subs could double as speaker stands though, and would be a lot more portable when it comes time to move :scratch2:

This looks like it turned in to a nice "Econo-Ewave Package." A lot of kick butt projects in this thread:yes:

Why is L2 for the DC300 so high compared to the standard high and low efficiency crossovers???

I got lucky today and was able to pick up a nice pair of Barzilay cabs for my project. I have been looking for a clean pair ever since I saw and heard Duffs ZD007's based on the same looking cabs. Mine, however, are 3 inches narrower only giving me an internal volume of 3.75 cf and not the bigger 4.5 cf.

I have the drivers from my last project to work with for now. They are the JBL 2213H, Selinium D220ti and JBL w/g. I also have the basic crossovers built, so really all I have to do is figure out the port sizes and get to cutting.

I plan on assembling the project as it is, but later I want to upgrade the C/D to maybe the BMS 4555 or similar and maybe a better woofer and crossover?

Any help with port sizes or anything else is appreciated.

And, if anyone can recommend a speaker box program for a MAC, It would be appreciated.

B, those look nice, I've never seen a narrower pair before. How does the wife like those cabinets? Better than the 4430's???
 
I've been having some issues with the size of my 4.5 cu ft LE14A/QSC/DE250 Ewave cabinets in my living room and decided to try the QSC/DE250 with my utility Advents...

Wow, this is a great sounding combination! I think the smaller Advent woofer actually has much better mids as it transitions to the waveguide. It doesn't have the SHAZAM! factor of the LE14A in the bass but it is no slouch and actually fits in a cabinet size that is acceptable in my living room.

Someone else here has tried this combo (Advent woofer/QSC/DE250) but I can't remember who. If you read this can I ask what modifications you made to the stock crossover and what your impressions were?

I'm listening to LA woofers in DQ-10 cabs. Stock Ewave low sensitivity XO for now. DE-250/QSC on top. casual testing shows excess output in the XO region, so Iprobably need to take the woofer down a bit at its top end to dial in the response.

It does sound very good, though. I'm a fan of this woofer.

My Ewave parts are here and I managed to get my crossovers finished today. Not as pretty as the ones with the etched boards but not too bad for my first crossover:D After closer examination of my crappy old monkey coffins, I'm going to get a pair of DC300 woofs and build a better set of boxes based on the KD Trap cabs:banana::banana::banana:

One of those pairs might look good in the living room on the 20th

That advent really looks nice. I am sure the DQ will look great after the trims is back on as well.
