Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

Ahhhh.....the summary table from Assistance Audio had them both listed as 1000 Hz and I didn't catch the 1.3 kHz on the spec sheets. Got it!
 
Does anyone have any listening impressions on the std kit yet? (DC300 and D220ti with the optimized crossover).
 
Would really love to see what the Standard version econowave (Deltalite 2512 with D220ti with PH612horn)would be like, and some comparison as well - Standard vs Deluxe
 
I targeted the tuning at 30 Hz; the ports are a pair of 2" at ~9.5" long. That's for DC300 with the stock 1.65 cuft. internal volume. Dennis has recommended higher tunings for the Eminence drivers in HT use over at Tech Talk. I believe at one point I suggested where Deluxe might end up as optimum, around 35 - 40 Hz, as I recall, but I have not looked at it in detail since.

The T/S parameters are available for the various drivers and we know the internal cab volume(s); it'd be good if someone undertook a comprehensive box modeling study.... :yes:

I plan to have pairs of the Standard DC-300 and Deluxe at the NorCal DIY meet in Roseville the 24th of April.

[Gotta build more cabs yet for that.... :) ]

Hey Zilch, I ran a PCD sim on the Deltalite

I know it's a bit late, but this was as quick as I could get to it.

I took the FRD and ZMA files you posted at PE, and loaded them into PCD.

I posted at PE as well, but I'll repeat it here.

Tweeter XO: 5.6uF with Lpad of 3.3 Ohm and 3.3 Ohm (optional 1mH in parallel with shunt 3.3 Ohm resistor. slight drop in XO point spl.)

Woofer XO: 3mH, 15uF + 2 Ohm, 1mH

Here's the simulated response. Note the tweeter is wired out of phase, as in the Deluxe version.

What is the 150 dollar measuring system you are eluding to over there?

Electrical vs. acoustic XO point

I thought I'd put something into perspective for those contemplating using the shunt inductor in the Deluxe version tweeter circuit.

Keep in mind that the actual electrical crossover point of the 1st order network for the DE250/QSC is around 5KHz.

That's quite high, and probably high enough to never have to worry about beginning to strain the DE250 while the woofer remains linear. The woofer is likely to exhibit audible distortion before the DE250 does with a 5KHz XO point. It's thanks to the action of the waveguide that the actual acoustic crossover point is at 1500Hz.

Oh, Zilch.

I modified the Deltalite tweeter XO. Change the padding resistors to 4.7 Ohm series and 4 Ohm shunt and add 2.2uF in parallel with the series 4.7 Ohm resistor. That will flatten out the top octave nicely.

Should this be implimented in your "5 element" crossover, in terms of the 2.2 parallel cap?

i am getting my parts shopping done for the jbl l14a variant of the ewave. i was doing fine until i got to L2, which calls for 2.0mH 18AWG i-core piece. PE does not have that exact item, exactly. can i use one of their air cores, in the correct value, or shop elsewhere?
 
Another general question that I need answered before I proceed down a path I shouldn't...will these eWave designs sound similar to the pro PA speakers in an HT application? I was contemplating the deluxe version and then noticed a few JBL pro products that had similar features, already built for same or less price.

I like a project like the next guy, but if the speakers are going to perform similarly, I can move on to the next project.

Any thoughts?
