I mentioned earlier because I read it...using 2 cu ft as the box size for the woofer if I go horn on top. Any confirmation this is the correct size? Also...is the vertical distance between the center of the horn and center of the woofer critical? Just need to start looking at appropriate box dimensions.

Yes, 2 cuft. is a workable size.

It's important to minimize the c/c distance, so put your woofer near the top of the cab....

Ah...I just realized c/c means center to center. [dense]

Ok, one other thing...I forgot to mention I am leaning toward a sealed box as well. Plan on building a 28" THT for the low end (or two).

Since the deluxe econowave is based on the trapezoid cabinet from PE, if I make my own enclosure (larger for a little more bass) am I correct to assume I should keep the width at 17"?

I am thinking an enclosure size of 27" H x 17" W x 15" D, with 1.5" front baffle(ported at Fd = 35 Hz, with 4" dia port). Bagby's Woofer Box program indicates this would size box should work well for the Kappalite 3012LF (- 3 dB = 61 Hz, - 6 dB = 39.92 Hz).
 
The waveguide is 14" wide, so you're going to be 16" or above, very likely. In detail, the baffle step frequency will change with different cabinet widths, but not significantly within the range under discussion here....

I already have three of the QSC waveguides, they sure are bigger than I expected (even though I knew the dimensions when I ordered).

The enclosure size was partially influeced by the size of 13-ply baltic birch my local distributer carries (60" x 60") - I wanted to get the cutsheet for three boxes on two sheets. I plan on making the outer baffle out of solid oak to match my subwoofer.:music:
 
Does anyone know if Speakerlab W1208Rs would go high enough to mate with the HF in this project? I have a couple of those woofers laying around... they are from a few versions of the speakerlab seven, 6, 5, and I think the 4. Maybe the three.
 
GordonW once measured and posted the specs for a 1208R speaker (in 2004) so he may have some comment on whether they would reach 1600hz, if he can remember that far back. Speakerlab recommended a 1000hz xover point.

Ah yes...if only I was proficient in speaker design. I don't know what I am doing here but I think this might be of use to someone who can help. I could act like I know what I am looking at but that is for another thread I suppose.

I will most likely cross them at 80Hz at the receiver. For shits and giggles I ran it with a 2cu. ft box vented by 2 x 4" ports that are 12" long (each I think).

Also...any laymens explanation for what the inductor and capacitor in the LF crossover portion are doing to the response and how that interacts with these WinISD models I am running?

You can't use WinISD to model anything above the region where TS parameter dominate. You can sort of model the impedance above 300Hz, but even then, it's only an approximation. It is nearly useless for modeling response above 200Hz for woofers with system tunings in the 40s or below.

To model the upper frequency response of a driver, you really need to have an actual response plot and impedance plot. Then you need to get those plots compensated for baffle effects, and finally, put into a crossover modeling system like Jeff Bs PCD tool.

WinISD is great for getting box dimension and tuning, but not much beyond that. For multi-way systems, WinISD is only the foundation.
 
The measurements in Brandon's Driver Vault show it starting to lose pattern control up around 2 kHz, and 1.2 kHz is likely the lower limit of its utility in this regard.

It's a large waveguide, but much of that size is taken up by the substantial built-in roundover at the mouth, the "business" portion being roughly equivalent to the standard eWaveguide, which is also confirmed by the measurements.

The answer, then, is yes, driven by a general-purpose compression driver rated to play that low, it will play down there, but only with significantly compromised functionality.... :thumbsdn:
